I'd recommend home ground if you're seeking somewhere close to AO for a quick bite & bevvies...

Exactly where I was recommended. We are getting there at midday just walking there now

I just had the thought that why don't the Poms hold a day/night test for the Ashes in England.

Maybe they just don't want to face Starc with the pink ball?

Not that it goes dark really early in the UK. Why do they need it anyway? Best pitches and the best ball (Duke) that provides a great bat/ball contest

Daylight tends to be longer in an English summer, however it’s not usually very bright and you get long shadows too. Uk climate is typically quite wet obviously so there’s the tendency for the cooler evenings/nights to be wetter. Visibility is worst during the long twilights.

I think the kookaburra has caught up and even surpassed the Duke in recent years. Kookaburra has made improvements so it swings for longer.
Kookaburras have been used in early season county matches in April/may, they have led to some terrible cricket matches pretty much across the board.

Night cricket in Leeds or Manchester at any time year just sounds cold.

He has indicated internally that he wants to finish at home for the Ashes next year but I can honestly see him pulling the pin earlier if things don’t improve
There is no obvious replacement so it’s probably only a watch until the end of the fourth test if he doesn’t get a score. He is lacking a big score even domestically of late even with some good starts.

or coming off two decent games after a year of trash (Hunt).
His last year was not good nor was it trash, scoring one of the best tons (162) I have seen from him. He is ready for a coveted Baggy Green imo, a mature late 27, in the best form of his career with three maximums from six games, sitting top of the table at the annoying break. He was dead unlucky not to get a Test call couple of years ago while others did, so he is overdue. His career then took a bit of a nosedive after he took over the SA captaincy then subsequently relinquished it . Is a good chance that affected him mentally.

Konstas is first in line
CA may decide he is not ready or that McSweeney is better suited at #3 or the middle order, in which case there is another opening at the top. Two fresh openers post Ussie to take us thru the next decade rather than one being a regurgitated failure in his early 30s.

Lots of talk about the batting lineup obviously but we have bowlers that aren't exactly young either.

Xavier Bartlett seems to be one that may challenge for an Ashes spot next year.

What is Bumrah's carry on? Dude is super reserved
Agreed. One of my favourite non-Australian players in world cricket.

Just an absolute gun. Honestly one of the best bowlers I've had the pleasure of watching in their prime, and seems like a really humble guy.

McSweeney......good old fashioned display from an opener....dig in....guts it out and show some fight (with a bit of luck which is needed) when the ball and deck has some life...then start to gain some momentum and play some shots. Good signs so far in my opinion.

Thats what we need at the top of the batting order.
Young people.
We’ve been in denial for so long.
There was a curious thing in Perth that despite the wicket being extremely bouncy most of the time, they got a few balls to skid through quite low on day 1 for LBW's. Those LB's accounted for McSweeney, Labs and Smith for scores of 10, 2, and 0; this more than anything else explains the first innings collapse. You can deal with losing two wickets cheaply, but not most of your upper order. Head copping a quick full one before he was ready also didn't help.

Tonight, they looked substantially less threatening because they didn't get their length right, Siraj especially. He had that full packed cordon and spent the evening bowling to it; back a length outies seeking the drive on the up. Siraj is at his most dangerous with the ball pitched up and skidding onto the stumps, using that dramatic angle he gets to pin blokes to the crease. That spell is about the most pedestrian he's ever looked over here. Rani for all that he bowled a lot of garbage - he too tried to bowl back a length, but the extra height and speed made the pull and cut options - looked their most threatening, IMO. The other two were well down in pace for most of the evening (in addition to bowling the wrong length) and he was getting it to nip off the deck at speeds difficult to play.

Bumrah looked... tired. He still got the most lateral movement in the air, still bowled some genuine jaffas, but he looked a bit more laboured than he should in the second test. It's interesting and I don't want to jinx it - he's probably going to come out tomorrow and blow us apart - but if the other two don't sharpen up a bit in terms of runs scored, he's going to have to shoulder a lot of the load both as a wicket taker and building pressure.
Yep, he looked absolutely knackered by the end, his usual smirk was replaced by the old side tongue thing he does!
It’s astounding watching this bloke though, he doesn’t look much at first, but he makes the ball do things I don’t think we’ve seen very often at this level.
A bit Warney like, you have no idea which way the thing will come at you and which way it will deviate, a terrifying prospect for anyone padded up.👍
