The rule is that as long as you are within a certain distance (is it 2.5 metres?) or something, they don’t care about the distance. Which is common sense because the old rule was basically one of those old unwritten (like ‘benefit of the doubt’) “oh he’s forward so it’s probably going over” mantras.

It sure wasn’t bouncing over and there wasn’t much doing spin wise.

I don’t have a problem with the not out call, he got a long way down the pitch to almost get outside the line so fair play. But well worth a look

That's what I thought too and then later they show a replay showing it was pad first. Umpires call on impact means it would have stayed not out anyway but India don't then lose their review.
