It is our fault for not picking up on "at least " 2028 :p
Not sure how the news hounds did not jump on the wording a bit earlier. They are usually all over that type of stuff.

Because it usually just means they might stay at the club longer than the current contract.

My other half looks like she is going to beat Brest cancer . What they did with the Parish contract really is minor stuff on the scale of things .
Footy spin is footy spin . Happens at all clubs . Think it was more media spin than Essendon spin . Until there is a system that is transparent across the comp it will continue to happen.
Amazing news Ant. Very pleased for you both.

Good to hear what sounds like positive news with your plus 1.

That certainly puts things into perspective. I'm sorry for your troubles and congratulations to both you and your partner seeing the light at the end of what must have been a terrifying tunnel.

They don’t have to go to Arizona to show they’re taking their career seriously and coming back in good nick.
I don’t think it’s about that, could care less about the training/ fitness. For me it’s more about the young leaders all being at the forefront of wanting to drive the group forward hence langford mcgrath and ridley driving it, I’d hope parish is also one that wants to drive the group forward and is sick of the mediocrity

Oh I agree, I want him to be driving the group forward as an emerging leader and be sick of mediocrity and all of that. Spending a week's salary on a trip with the boys from work and leaving your wife behind for two weeks would not go down well at home for a lot of people though, no matter how much they have the will and the drive to have their entire life revolve around football.

Are Merrett and Heppell going?

It’s not a normal job though, but just the ‘boys from work’
If anything that can be said of the essendon to playing group, it’s their lives should probably revolve more around footy, as many / a lot of haven’t taken it seriously/ professionally in the past. It’s okay to have that attitude when you’re winning and successful, doesn’t really fly when you’re not.
Yeh merrett is going. Heppell isn’t, don’t think it really matters if he does, he isn’t the future and won’t be there for the next 4-5 years.

Merret and Heppell are two guys that actually show leadership and desire. It's good to see some other guys want to stand up and show a little.

I don't think leaving the partner for 2 weeks is a big deal. Careers are fairly short in the scheme of things, and they'll have plenty of time (and money) to spend when they retire.

It's not a normal job, but it's also not a normal expectation in this job.

Which is kind of the whole point... if it was normal it wouldn't be special and noteworthy that they're even doing it.

Like I said, some people will do that, and others wouldn't dare. It's a personal decision and not one I would like to see weaponised.

I thought it was a personal decision by the guys to do the training?

The thing you could say is being weaponised (such as in comments from Scott) is driving better standards and attitude from the players, which I don't think is a bad thing. For too long we've been mediocre and the players had gotten by just doing the bare minimum. We're never going to see any type success if that continues.
