Does anyone else have some kind of mental guard-rail that stops them processing Sheezel's first year?

It's like I'm so scarred by NMFC related disappointments for the last 20 years I can't open up to how brilliant Harry's entry into the AFL was

Absolutely.

Because his first year was f***ing ridiculous.

League award, Club awards, on the back of playing a position he had never played in his life.

its absurd.

and we've been so flash in the pan for so long it is hard to reconcile.

it is also kinda lost in the glare of all the shiny new things we have.

Hard to compare really between eras and players but his only competition this century is probably Daniel Wells' debut year. Obviously he has him statistically overall in most measures and they played very different roles in very different teams, but I'd say that's the last time a player came in and had so many games with high impact, class and disposal.

Once you go back much further comparisons get even harder, especially as most players didn't come in and have huge impacts in year 1 (if only because they weren't as likely to play so many games). Other old farts will no doubt have some good comparisons.

As an ‘oldish fart’, Matty Larkin’s 2nd season in 1985 was as close as you get to Sheezel’s achievement. Not a bad effort back then when you consider Grieg, Glendinning, Schimma and the Krakouer brothers were running around that year. As much as Sheez’s achievement is awesome, it’s like winning in a Zipping Classic field compared to Larkin’s Cox Plate field.

Note: In his first season in 1984, he played 10 games which was a year of transition when club stalwarts Dench, Dempsey and Crazy Horse Cowton retired early in the season.

What did Larkin win in his first 2 seasons?

Not bad for a bloke who rocked up to Arden St, told them he's from Boronia and therefore zoned to North, and asked if he could join training.

He's the type of player you have absolute confidence he'll make you look twice as good as a teammate.

That's what wins flags. Players that can make the fringe types useful and Sheezel is the man. It's hard to no get too carried away.

Bloody hell....I'm hating fantasy footy this year. I just have way too many NMFC players. I'd left Harry out, thinking Kerch would pick up his role. If anything they bring each other into the game more. And X showed me enough at his price, to tip Gawn out and look to upgrade later. Stephens looks a bargain at his price as well. Now I have, Sheez, Kerch, X, Dyl, Laz, and LDU, no doubt will be trading in Sausage when he gets a gig too....and torn about leaving my Wardlaw out.

In SC, I'm not sure Stephens is a bargain at 324k given that he's mid only.

On today's stats, I'd prefer Powell at 312k as a fwd.

Biggest issues with Sheezel will be the temptation to have him more so in the forward half of the ground.

Remember the game against Sydney?

In for another big year it looks like 👍
This is where Zane Duursma comes in to play, hopefully he negates the need / temptation to move Harry forward unless we're desperate because nothing else has worked.
