I think it's fair to say all of Phillipou, Sheezel and Ashcroft will all be guns in the future.

They all look like potential stars.

Phillipou has the size and booming kick that could make him a real stand-out.

That's not downplaying Sheezel, I can just see how someone might personally gravitate to a particular player in that crop.

I was adamant that Phillipou had all the tools to be a superstar pre-draft. The size and booming kick as you mentioned, being aerially strong and good enough on the ground and whilst some may be deterred from his mentality I think it's a good thing as he's willing to embrace any challenge coming his way.

Sheezel has a different type of competitiveness, seems quite introverted about it but considering his actions on the field I'd say it's absolutely there.

Yeh think there is a factual basis to speculate Phillipou could be the superstar from this crop.
Bit premature, we haven’t even seen the warlord yet.

Ashcroft, Owens, and Callaghan should be a fun battle for second place.

Daicos last year had what is arguably the best first year that we've seen over the past 20 years. If you compare their first eight weeks, then Sheezel is definitely ahead of Daicos. He just needs a signature game or two over the rest of the year and I think it will be fair to say that he had the better year.

I'm also pretty sure that if he reaches 40 touches at any point this year he'll be the youngest to ever do so. It feels like a matter of time before that happens.

The kid’s so good, he’s being taken for granted already…..

To think he’d basically never played back at all until late in the preseason, he went from looking lost to getting it 30 times a game in the space of a few weeks.

His footy IQ and ability to find the pill are ridiculous.

It's actually a ridic draft really. Ginbey looks top shelf. Hollands will play 200+ I reckon. Humphrey, McKenzie. We haven't even seen Wardlaw and Tsatis who could've gone 1 and 2. Cadman looks pretty good to me, early days. There wouldn't be many clubs unhappy with their selections yet
Edit……forgot about Michelanny. He’s another looking ridiculous IMO.

It aint just dwaynes narrative. At best he is considered no.2 in the running, and it shits me. He could win the club B&F but not the rising star.
I can see him coming 3rd behind Owens & Ashcroft. Not enough goal assists.
Yep the issue is the sheep in the media vote on this -those from SA/WA will vote for their locals and kornhole will give sheezel the least votes

Stat differential between Sheezel's 2023 (left) and Daicos' 2022 (right). What's impressing me is that Sheezel has a lot more CPs and score involvements despite being in an offensively worse side.

Banging on here but 'cheap kick getter' Sheezel averages more CPs than Ashcroft.

Hoping the media just trying to keep interest in an award that if was handed out now would be sheezels in a landslide.

The more important debate is.... is he a walk up start for the AA side?

IMO daicos shouldve been at least squad of 40. I probably wouldve found a way to squeeze him into the side.

Sheezels stat's are on another level to daicos.

Noting that to match Daicos’ amazing debut year, Harry needs to turn eight rounds of this magic into a full season at that level. He is capable, of course, but until he does it the comparisons are not quite there.

So long as we aren't notching up wins, muppets in the media who haven't even watched him play will conclude he's racking up cheapies.

"Experts" want to give the appearance of high football IQ I.e. they don't pay attention to stats, and hence will over compensate.

I'd be surprised if Ashcroft doesn't win it purely on that basis.

The best thing about this is that Sheezel averages more contested ball than Ashcroft.

I wouldn't be bothered if ashcroft got it, he is pretty spectacular and likely has goal of the year in the bag, it the end of the day its a nuthing award but sheeza winning would be a nice touch.

PMSL if Wardlaw actually did.

It's being undersold what this kid is doing, remember the hype around Daicos last year. Sheezel also is very young in his draft year where Daicos was probably the oldest in his draft year.

Daicos copped one tag - Guelfi, who turned him to absolute water. Sheezel has been tagged once and racked up 30?

Daicos is a sheep dog. Always will be. Sheezel is not a sheep dog.

Across all medium/small defenders in the AFL in 2023 Sheezel is:

1st in total contested possessions
1st in total ground ball gets
1st in total pressure acts
3rd in total score involvements
3rd in total goal assists (tied with a bunch of players)
5th in total coaches votes
11th in total tackles

Only a cheap kick getter btw.

And the best thing is blokes like Josh Jenkins watching him for the first time live and post match praising how hard he runs, and how much st kilda tried to nail him off the footy and stop his run.

Every. time. and the bloke still gets 30

Nah he had 11 the week he copped a bit of tag.
