Just thought the comparison to Silvagni, a father son, was a bit of a stretch.
For example other clubs wanted Silvagni, Hird was a projected spud.
Hirdy's grandfather was a 100 game player, one-time treasurer and club president, who the grandstand was named after, but Jim's dad only played a couple of games. The father-son rule goes back to the 1950s so his dad would've qualified as a father/son if he'd been any good, but there's no evidence the club recruited him through that mechanism (would've been zoned). Our Hirdy obviously didn't qualify, was drafted the ordinary way.I don't think they had F/S allowances, but isn't the old quote from Sheedy something like 'you always draft the grandkid of the guy who the stand is named after'
ha. that explains a lotHird was a projected spud.
Hird was small and played mostly in Canberra. A lot of clubs did not see him until he played in the Canberra rep side against the VFL. He also missed a lot of footy due to a hip injury and a few other injury issues. He could play. He was simply 70kg wringing wet. The club was going to delist him after one year so I guess you could say some projected him as a spud but he went late in the draft because he was small and did not have a lot of exposure. We knew about him because of his dad and grandfather. The draft was like that then as well. There where a lot of young blokes that only a few clubs where following. I would agree the Silvagni comparison is a bit apples and oranges.Just thought the comparison to Silvagni, a father son, was a bit of a stretch.

We also “gave up” Delaney with Ridley for Lloyd. I vaguely recall Freeo had to trade rights to juniors (as Lloyd still was) to bring in experienced players. Not sure they could have kept him.We were once the club that picked James Hird at 72 and traded Todd Ridley for Mathew Lloyd. Fml

Tall human genetics it seems, given it's not limited to the Reid family.Archer is already injured, guess it’s just in the genetics
And then our first round picks between 06-08 had their careers either ruined or at the very least limited by injury.Plus the draft when we did get the number 1 there was no real standout pick.
Unlike Fev to have a betFev kicked 4 on Darcy. Fev had a bet with Darcy before the game that he’d kick 8.
and loseUnlike Fev to have a bet

Has to live up to the lofty standards of our previous aggressive ball usersLooks like Martin aggressively put that one out of bounds.
What this club has done to us all I don't believe it will truly ever appreciateGreat forward line entry there with reid marking basically uncontested.
