Player Watch #34: Jack Graham - MOVED TO WCE - PICK 42 Received

I don't recall him ever being much good on ball. Reminded me of when we tried Vlastuin there.:$

Either way we need to stop playing slow & mid-paced players in outside roles.
He's the type of player to bring in if it's wet. Apart from that he simply doesn't find enough of the ball.

This is interesting. Rewatched a game or two from 2018 as I remember making a comment at a club function Graham would be leading the best and fairest but then got injured badly against the Crows if memory serves me correct?

When played as an inside bull that year, he was dominant in his pressure and pushing the ball forward. He was one of our better players in only his second year.

He’s been mismanaged by Dimma and Mini now playing a stupid role. Wonder if new coach will play him in his proper role now he’s got a contract? Is it pointless because we overspent on two exact types?

This is part of the problem our list management group have caused.

2018 H&A was probably our finest and he was a major part of that.
Jack Graham has played about 6 different positions/roles in his time at Richmond, he has been serviceable at best and below par at worst....he has 3 major problems in todays soft speedy game. he has no weapons.
1. too slow
2. can't take a mark
3. never cherry ripe fitness wise...injured/rehab/underdone. rinse and repeat

spare parts depth now, unless he can prove me and others wrong by having a blinder of a preseason and can match motors with taranto types in time trials.

has turned the full circle as was taken pick 50 odd and this is about his value again on the draft table now.

A week is a long time in football TB and you're going back 5 seasons. Injury I think has been his major reason to falling off the pace rapidly and I don't believe he can get anywhere near the level he was at in 2020. You're right in saying we have overspent in and traded for similar types. I hope an Adelaide team will take him, but i have my doubts now as he's fallen off a cliff.

I think the preseason comment is on the money. If he can have a blinding preseason he is still a good player because very few can match his punishing running ability, but that hasn't happened for a full season in an a while now.

i only ever notice him chasing tail like hooker trying to chase down Buddy - his inside tackling is good, but inside mids are so much quicker with their hands these days - and once outside he's done! the number one knock is his speed and that is the game these days

Agree in general, I don't consider him a midfielder because of his slow acceleration and almost no lateral movement. Has played a handful of good games in there in 6 years. I think his best game is the role he plays, high half who runs and overlaps. His top speed is okay because he can run at it all day. To do that he has to be super fit.

I'm not really in his corner, especially the last two years where he struggled with injury last year and was played underdone this year. I hated that he was an automatic selection rd 1 without even a single practice match. But if he can get back to 100% fitness I can see his worth at times, especially without Lambert who played a similar role. He does transition the ball well when he is on song. But it has been a good while since that has happened, so he is up against it.

Good servant of the Club...time for the tap on the shoulder and shown the door!
Nah wana see what Yze can do with him and some outside perspective. Perfect age spot in our list to go with taranto, hopper, drioli and shorty etc.

He best is very good. The gap between that and the shit he dished up this year was the issue. His role might also be the issue. Needs to be allowed to hunt the ball imo.

Think about it. He's shit he goes next year for maybe a 3rd rounder. He gets better that's a win for us as he'll go and we get a much better pick or he will re-sign as a valuable player on our list.

I agree, he’s earned the opportunity to be given the once over by a new coach.

In fact every left has IMO

Fully agree. Don’t think the list is in terrible shape. I just think the message was stale.

This. I don’t think we’ll make any other list changes unless someone wants to leave.

He’s also no fool when he gets it. We have lost a bit of footy IQ recently.

The Coach had checked out too coming back halfway through pre season, set the s**t tone.

The whole club has had a whiff of something being NQR since the 2020 GF.

Good tough footballer. Unfortunately not athletic enough for the midfield. Needs to play forward pocket or not at all.

One of those, too good for VFL, but just too slow for AFL. Great tackling and inside grunt and gives it his all.

Good player for depth.

Im hoping un droppable JG & Kmac types are a boost our VFL team.

The Dees & Suns VFL teams are full of AFL experienced players.

Nothing wrong with that.

The message and the plan all stale by the end.

I am so confident of a quick bounce under Yze, I can’t wait for 2024

Me too. Was hard watching gws and pies, it was like watching 2017-2020 tigers play ourselves. Was a great game. (actually happy for the coaches involved).

Very keen to see how we go. We might finally adapt to these rule changes that came in to 'stop the tigers'.

He’d ideally suit a side like norf as a standard setter
