Player Watch #34: Jack Graham - MOVED TO WCE - PICK 42 Received

of course not, what I was saying is we are rewarding the wrong things

Like if the system says every player gets a vote between 1-5 every game based on their performance, someone like Kmac who, IMO, was getting selected on the back of poor form, only had to play 22 games and he automatically has 22 votes.

It's not the system itself, but more the selection of players, the role they play, and the game plan we are trying to play.
It's 0 - 5 based on performance and not an automatic given of a base of 1 vote per game played. It has to be earned and in some games the highest ranked player may only pick up 3 votes, and in other games half the team may receive no votes at all.

Yep but that doesn’t suit the argument so it’s disregarded

How does that change anything. Graham surprised getting as many votes as he did. They are all on the same playing field, which is pretty obvious, so there is no argument, agenda or anything. Just general surprise that he did so well considering he had an average season by his standards.

In your judgement he had an average season, but not by the coaching staff clearly? Mind you, we had an awful year in my opinion, so wouldn’t be that hard to poll votes I guess and poll ahead of others. I don’t think we had many players at all that really had decent years, Taranto and maybe Dustin aside. Even the GOAT was pretty average until late in the year.

I give Yze one year to make some miracle work with our list. Prey he can do a big Collywobble moneyball NFL type of habitual gameplay for every scenario.

His public speaking does not fill me with confidence.
Go watch dimmas presser from when he first got the job.

Takes time to be comfortable in front of a camera

yeah 4 of our guns never got firing at the same time with Dusty flying solo for last 3 or 4 rounds.

Lynch - lived in a moon boot, nuff said.
Taranto - good early, blistering R8-R18, fell away towards the end
Martin - solid. but undusty like until he hit his straps last 5 or 6.
D. Rioli - often tagged but still awesome, injuries took their toll as last half of season was playing on one leg.

Apparently we gave the voting card to the umpire who gave Lachie Neale all those dodgy threes in the Brownlow.
He likes Graham too.
Not a chance any of Graham, K-Mac or Pickett was better than Ross this year.
Richmond Boys Club alive and well.
Ross played 2 decent games and 15 shite ones. Turnover king

Ross's kicking in the last year and a bit has been as good as anyone's. His confidence in his kicking has gone up and he hits most passes he goes for, not always just the chip and safe type also. He does kick it long down the line a bit, but that seems to be our game plan. Be nice if we had a forward who could mark the ball. Nearly everyone on this forum during the year has mentioned how much his ball use has improved.

2 decent games! 7 games above 20 possessions is pretty good for a wingman.

His delivery into f50 was the best on our team the year by a wide margin. One of the few players who actually hits targets instead of the easy out long bomb.

I tell you what it is.
Given we finished 13th this year, 12th two years ago and were first out of the finals in 2022, THE ROLES ARE ALL F***** UP.
It's pretty simple to the plain eye that the likes of Graham, K-Mac and Pickett were poor last year.
But if being poor gets you votes, the roles are either outdated or to the detriment of the team.
Which is a big part of the problem.
The rest of the league has moved on from 2017 to 20, we are stuck in a time warp.
Our game plan is easier to read than a Little Golden Book as we are resistant to change and are living off past glories.
For all I care, Graham and KMac can keep playing roles that win them pats on th back from their mates in the coaching box, but those roles don't win us games.

No one is doubting that, but if the coaching group are asking them to perform a role, that’s all they can do to help the team win. Will be very interesting to see what Yze etc do with Graham, Pickett, Kamdyn etc
