Sure. Problem is, the test simply isn't going to go that long. On this surface - a surface that is this good to bat on - you're simply not going to take the requisite wickets quickly enough to 20 wickets inside 2 days.
Because that's what you'd have to do to win this match; declare immediately, and bowl them out inside 200 before today is over, leaving 2 full days to bowl for victory. Don't think that's going to happen, sorry.

Honestly... F*** me... We bowled 80 overs for the entire test in Adelaide, which finished 8 days ago. There is another 8 day break before Boxing Day starts.
These are supposedly professional athletes. If we are doing this to protect/mollycoddle them then we have a serious problem.
We "might" be making sure only one team can win. But we're also not giving that team the best opportunity to do so.

One thing that doesn’t get mentioned when comparing over rates of today compared to past generations is the scoring rate.
It’s a lot easier to roll through the overs when 20-30 of them a day are maidens and the scoring rates were below 3 an over. When there are 50+ boundaries in an innings it changes that a lot.

Don’t worry about the rain, if only one team can win, it changes the outlook of batsmen. Batting to survive is an art that has been lost.
