To be fair, I think a large part of the issue with the future-planning is that the options just haven't been there.

We are absolutely blessed with fast bowling talent but our main 3 are still too good to replace.

But with our batters, over the last few years our options would have been the usual suspects (Renshaw, Harris, Bancroft) or fast-tracking younger talents that weren't ready and potentially harming their confidence long-term. I don't like that Warner got to declare when he'd retire, but realistically at the end of his career he was still lightyears ahead of the next best option.

it's a double edged sword, i suppose. warner's final 10 tests had him average higher than steve smith's most recent 10 tests, so, it's something. the nature of our near inability to "make a tough call" has rendered our batting attack mostly toothless and remarkably fragile. i personally wouldn't mind someone like mcsweeney (not opening, obviously) playing more tests as it's giving him an actual opportunity to play well. even if his performances aren't fantastic, having the opportunity will help them remarkably more than languishing in the shield.

We can’t consistently be failing in the top order collapses and let’s face it whoever. Bats three atm they will fail against bumrah

Marnus has been consistently failing the past 12 y tests

Marsh is not fit out for Webster

Inglis in for Marnus boland for hazelwood

Best chance for us to win imo going forward is to have a attacking middle order 4/5/6/7

And hope the top three can do something order for me
