Player Watch #40 Tom Hanily - happy debut

As expected, takes the #40 jersey following in the footsteps of Swans (Reserves) legends Cam Owen, Malachy Carruthers, Paul Currie (and someone called Nick Smith)

Good to see him paired up with Parks in the training footage
Like that they've told him "just play on instinct" for the first couple of weeks so that they can see what he brings at the level and what he might need to work on. He expects to play as a small forward. 🤔
I have a good feeling.

Seems to be the forgotten guy with JD coming in. Hopefully we'll see him get an early game or two to show us what he's got at senior level.
First let's hope he puts in a big preseason and gets the coaches' attention. THEN he gets a game while Dattoli is unavailable and makes his mark. More pressure for the match committee.

Hanily may be overlooked but that's only because he hasn't done anything to demand selection. And it's not like we have high expectations - we took him as a free hit in the mid-season draft. If he gets a game he'll be doing well. Here's hoping he has a strong pre-season along with everyone else and competes hard for a spot. Cleary and Wicks will be competing for the same spot, so he's got his work cut out. I'm happy if he just develops, and shows us what he's got and, if he gets some opportunities, does his best to seize them.

He looked right at home in VFL straight away which is a good sign. Difficult to stand out in the dog's breakfast that was our VFL team last year so I'm glad we gave him another year to find out what he might have.
I keep thinking of HKK catching cold at HF while top-ups blasted the ball over his head to no-one. Hopefully we'll be better.

Me too.

Kid looks competitive. Looking forward to seeing him develop in 2025. Could be a bolter!

Very impressive tonight v Gold Coast.

Certainly exceeded my expectations tonight and looked comfortable at the senior level.
Good decision making, hard at it.
Led the team for I50 tackles, = second for score involvements and anyone who can absorb a fend off from Sam Collins and get a HTB gets a tick from me.

Very pleasing.

Should play next week and certainly ahead of Corey Warner

Lol, really? Hanily was solid enough - bit shit first half but good second half. Warner was the opposite, excellent first half but anonymous second half. But Warner was better over the entirety of the game and has more runs on the board.

Honestly until the second half of this game I really haven't seen much to get excited about from Hanily. To me tonight was the first time he's shown any of the potential that has been talked up, and I watched most of the VFL games he played last year. Good signs, but he's a fair way back still.

One of our boys from Sandy told me at training last night and (who should get drafted) played on him in the 1st half in the midfield and maybe beat him and then Tom went forward and kicked 2 , never played back.
I asked how good and he said he's a gun ! good fresh info
That boy from Sandy was Luke Kennedy who i thought we were drafting , but went to the Brave Dogs
I think Luke was spot on
