He was terrific.
I'm not one to doubt the coaches as a rule, but I always wondered what they didn't see in him. I've always thought he was very dependable and I struggle to think of an actual bad game he's played .
I can kinda understand why he wasn't always best 22, but the delisting at the end of 2020 was especially heinous.

This is seriously pathetic reading. WTF is wrong with people talking the same rot defending players that come into this side repeatedly and couldn't get a ******* kick in a stampede ? Fox like Rose and those before them like Foote & Robinson should be nowhere near an AFL List. It is not as if these blokes are 19 year old draftees like Rowbottom or Mcinerney that need time to develop over a couple of years. You play Fox you might as well play short. He provides nothing but a witches hat in the zone. The longer they keep carrying players on this list year after year that would be at best above average VFL Players the longer our sinking into the mire will continue.

I tend to agree. Fox’s NEAFL form looks so vastly different to his senior form that you have to wonder if he’s just not up to the level.
from May 2019

This will be unpopular.. but Ive always seen Fox as an extremely dedicated and focused player who will get the very best out of himself. A player who will listen to the coaches and play his role absolutely. I reckon its these attributes, not talent, that have kept him on the list.
Its extremely hard to criticise someone who works so hard both on and off the field, training and during games.. but
I reckon its a 50/50 bet that Fox is in the starting 22 come the end of the season.. and I reckon he is the most overrated player on this board

I see Fox as a player who has improved late in his career & is now a solid AFL standard player.

Because he’s never been a star, you tend to have limited expectations & therefore really notice his good games (of which there were quite a few last year).

I actually think that was just to get him on the rookie list. Just an accounting move. Heinous is emotive. Shows that you have an invested strong feeling for Fox. I do too. But it was just an accounting move. Nothing to do with his value to the team.

I stand by what I said.

To quote from the article

"We weren’t aware of a late rule change the AFL made to now allow players to be directly transferred from a primary list to a rookie list.

“That was our intention but we weren’t aware of the late rule change. "
Again, not quite.

Easy for us to say we were always planning on re-rookieing him after the fact to save face, but when we're literally serving up the "we'd like to thank Robbie for his contributions" schtick days earlier, that suggests otherwise.

"Nothing to do with his value to the team" were your words. We literally delisted him lol. He could've explored his options elsewhere, been taken by another club. We were obviously OK with that risk enough to delist him. That says a lot IMO about how he was valued.
You are just twisting my words to try to support your twisted narrative.

"Nothing to do with his value to the team" were my words. The delisting from the main list had nothing to do with his value to the team. It was an accounting move designed to save salary cap.

To quote more from the article you posted.
“Robbie had a breakout year almost you would say with the team. He was pretty consistent for us,” Gardiner told SEN on Thursday.
“The challenge this year is just the squeeze on for list spots. You’ve got to weigh up a whole lot of things around your list needs and your priorities when you’re making calls.
“We’re actually very keen to re-rookie Robbie and have committed to doing that with him. Unfortunately we weren’t aware of a late rule change the AFL made to now allow players to be directly transferred from a primary list to a rookie list.
That was our intention but we weren’t aware of the late rule change. Had we known that the messaging would’ve been different.

“We’re certainly hopeful that he can continue the development he’s made with us this season next season.”

I know you love the Fantastic Mr Fox but no amount of twisting my words can cange the facts.

The Swans wanted to keep him. And they did. The previous year this would have been the only way. The AFL chnaged the rules and caught the Dwans on the fly.

The intention of the Swans was always to keep Fox.

They announced his delisting though and thanked him for his contribution to the club. I remember because I was also upset he was delisted being he is a local Tassie player.

He was interviewed by the local paper here and said that he was still hopeful of finding another team

I stand by my comments because I remember the time. I thought a lot about Fox too. There were challenges around the list in that and subsequent years.

I always thought that the intention of the Swans was always to keep Fox. And it happened.

This is the most strangely-worded commitment to re-drafting someone I've ever read.

“Robbie, Zac and Jackson have all been outstanding people to have around the club and have made a contribution both on and off the field, so these were tough calls to make,” Sydney football boss Charlie Gardiner said.

“The uncertainty surrounding the make-up of lists has made this period particularly challenging and all three have handled the situation with great character and maturity.

“On behalf of everyone at the Swans, we want to thank them for their hard work and dedication, and wish them all the very best for the future.”

I know it may seem that I am pushing shit uphill but. Stranger things have happened.

The uncertainty surrounding the make-up of lists has made this period particularly challenging

It was a particularly difficult time for the Swans cap wise. Fox was peripheral.

To each their own rusty, I just don't believe the club's spin on this one.
