I think Hoyne got asked this on SEN once, his answer was that for it to be a disposal, it has to be something that could conceiving affect the outcome of the game. Kicking it back to the umpire after the siren won't give you a stat. Torp-ing it from 70 will though even if it falls well short
So would that count as 70m gained?

What I loved was his 2 grabs on a lead against Jayden Hunt, that was impressive, have not seen that in our forward half for a long time. Hunt was toe to toe with him and he still grabbed them cleanly.
Also loved the excitement and nervousness on his face once they told him he was going on. Took in some big breaths and looked like he lived for that moment.

The last player for us to hit the ball flat out and mark overhead with a defender on his hammer was Fev

Moir could be anything, he can kick both feet like Sam Mitchell except he can hit 50m on both feet too

After watching the Lions create goals through pure forward craft and X Factor - we just have to get games into Moir.

Which of our forwards can kick opportunist snaps off a step or outside 50 non preferred foot?

Definitely no of Owies, Motlop or Durdin.

Also notice how good the Brisbane medium forwards are in the air.

I have never seen a kid so good both feet

Additionally he would be the only player on our list that can kick 50 on BOTH feet

Just watched a clip of his highlights from his U/18 year and in comparison to his games in the AFL, he's already put on some decent size and is obviously a lot more powerful. He just looks like he still has so much untapped physical potential, which you think once he matures will see him become so hard to stop on a lead, better able to fend off tacklers and break tackles, and use the creative instincts he has.

I remember when Fev discovered the weight room and went to another level, Moir is a different player obviously but when his body enables him to do what his brain wants to do he will become a beast for us.

He is unbelievable, I think he is a similar player to Fev but smaller

Mercurial, highly skilled, great contested mark on the lead

The benefit for Moir is he has guys like Charlie and Harry next to him.

Poor old Fev had Cameron Cloke
I think he will REALLY benefit from having H and Charlie there, if he is good enough to kick a goal and get multiple touches on Dougal Howard in his second game then he is going to tear those 3rd string defenders apart

Arr0w is the official player Buddy for Ashton Moir. Everybody else can still update the thread. Arr0w will be the one making sure it stays current.

I have a feeling he could be a bit like Gibbs in that he appears quite laconic during training and mickey mouse games, but gets going in the real stuff.

At least I hope for the latter..

My thoughts on his first VFL game of the season

Moir, was generally one touch and looked dangerous with hands on the pill. Actually did a fair bit of defensive running. I think for his development at this level, Id play him either out of the square or a pseudo CHF, so he can get more invoived with the ball coming down from all angles

I'd like to see this guy thrown in at the deep end and let him have a crack. He is a flamboyant type of player who plays on instinct, get the ball in his hands. Too many times we see this coached out of players, run here, run there, let them do what they were doing before they were selected into the system.

Too many defensive forwards and you lose your scoring ability. An attacking defender can only attack if his forward isn't kicking goals. Our small forwards aren't dangerous around goals which allows the defenders to run up the ground. They will cover Motlop as he can produce something from nothing, but Cottrell, Fog and Walsh at the moment don't offer scoring opportunities

balanced athlete both sides…great leg, can thread a needle…strong mark…good acceleration…he could be anything !
E Hollands and Moir opposite wing/hf delivering the ball inside 50…I’d like that !!
has more upside than most playing on our hf line…ffs play him !
