It’s a moot point now but I wonder how selection would have gone with smith now unwilling to open. Maybe labs would have opened.

It is interesting. I think Labuschagne would have opened, with Smith/Green at 3 and 4 at some sort of order. I don’t think Marsh would have been out at the start of the season considering how well he played against Pakistan.

It has been an all time stinker of a series from Mitch. Batting has been dreadful but not being able to get any overs out of him the last few games (especially when Hazlewood was hurt) while we run Starc and Cummins into the ground has been a killer. If he couldn’t bowl he really shouldn’t have played. They gambled and lost on that one.

Marsh, Khawaja & Lyon shouldn’t play in Sydney based on their series form. Healy who had a more significant career didn’t get a farewell test in Brisbane and I wouldn’t give Khawaja one at his original home deck. Selectors won’t drop Lyon (or Khawaja), but we need to pick a second specialist spinner to lessen the load on the quicks. Lyon hasn’t been able to do that role in Brisbane or Melbourne.

Lyon is past his used by date. He is too busy bowling quick darts because he is scared of getting hit these days.

Most of Lyon’s wickets come from dumb shots now, not him beating the batsmen.

He was bowling flat quick shit at 86-88 km yesterday.

May as well been giving the Indian batsmen throw downs bowling that garbage.

That 8th wicket partnership yesterday that went for around 50 overs really knocked the stuffing out of us. The bowlers looked tired. I was exhausted watching from my lounge chair.

It changed the momentum and that has continued today.
