Difficult position we're in here.
With so many rained out drawn tests in Sydney this is possibly our best chance for the win to get the trophy back.
Should we not be having a crack at them for a few overs tonight?

A draw is a win for them.

Chasing 300 at the MCG has happened once at that was in 1928. We should have tried to get a few tonight
I'm not sure a draw is a win for them. They can retain the trophy here with a win, Australia can't win it here. A draw keeps it alive.

And I don't think a draw is any more likely yet by batting on. if they bat through the day, the only way a draw happens, they get the runs.

Maybe a dumb question but how much value is there in a quick look at the pitch tomorrow morning to assess how day 5 will play out?

Does overnight temperature or humidity do anything to it at all?
Probably not much but we'd be waiting until 10 minutes and 01 seconds before play until we tell India we're declaring

How?

311 on an extended day isn't anything beyond reach.
The biggest 4th innings run chase at the MCG since 2000 is 231 (Australia vs England).
It's possible, but very very difficult and it looks like a bowler's wicket at the moment.
