I can see why he didn't. As a former umpire it was close-ish I reckon. We don't want umpires at any level to be trigger happy and fire the gun on everything.

It's one of those close calls and sometimes umpires will get a whole heap of them in a game.

Making correct calls is not trigger happy.

The problem is that the ridiculous 'umpire's call' system, which is not based on an actual margin of error in the system but a bizarre political compromise, already distorts reality in the batsman's favour.

There is no offsetting 'umpire's call' margin for a bowler, whereby they extend the size of the wickets to give the bowler the benefit of the doubt if just missing.

So a conservative approach just compounds the problem and punishes bowlers even further.
