if India don’t lose a wicket in the first 30 mins I could easily see Pant and Jaiswal having a ping at this. They can just batten down the hatches if they lose 2 wickets with Jadeja and Washington just blocking it out.

Reddy to be sent in next.

Failed to bowl them out on the last day twice when they were last here, about to fail to do it again. Same 4 bowlers.

Their failure to bowl out our 10/11 was more embarrassing than anything we've done and the reason for the impending result.

It's been a cripple fight masquerading as an 'enthralling contest' and neither team deserves to win.

In reality it's been a shit game of cricket on a shit pitch between two poor sides (by both nations usual standards), saved a little by some individual performances.

Bit risky with them and the tail facing the new ball which has done the most damage for 10-15 overs.

There has only been one successful run chase at the G, with a target over 300 and that was in 1928. It was a blunder to not put them in late yesterday, or at least declare overnight. A draw is a India win.

I can’t speak for all those MCG test matches in the past, only for this one right now. Only one of the three innings has resulted in a score of less than three hundred.

That took what Mark Waugh described as the best spell of fast bowling he’d ever seen from Bumrah. Even then number ten and eleven plonked it around for fifty five runs. This is not a standard day five pitch. Once the ball gets soft at thirty five overs or so, batting loses most of its challenge.

A draw is not a win for India. If the last three tests result in three draws, with two from bad weather and one from a dead pitch, then that’s pretty much an act of god.

It matters if you have no other attributes to your bowling ie swing, cutters, lift.

He generally does. He actually showed it in the first test. I think over the course of his career his bowling has been somewhat under-utilised because people have wanted him to be something else with the bat that he’s never been capable of being.

Instead he’s hardly touched the thing and his batting has been atrocious in itself.

yeh na drop in pitches came in what 30 years ago ? pitches are way better then back into 1928, it's day 5 and not many have spun

And even then, the biggest successful run chase was 231, in 2013. At 300, they had way more than enough. Plus giving India some minor thought they might actually win would make then play more shots, especially Pant.

I do agree with the whole play to win idea. But I guarantee you the same people slating Cummins for playing it safe now would be slating him again if we were brave and lost
Certainly.

But it’s the timing isn’t it?

If you won’t attack now with 230 to get in 150 then when will you?

And this bs on the commentary about Aus behind behind on the overrate determining who bowls is effing garbage.

Do we want to win? Or are we sitting with calculators working out who plays an effing meaningless game at Lords in June?

The WTC final is meaningless?

4 quicks and Lyon for Sydney. Replace Marsh with a quick. Jhye for Starc. Carey 6. Cummins 7. Need to take 20 Indian wickets quickly.
