4 quicks and Lyon for Sydney. Replace Marsh with a quick. Jhye for Starc. Carey 6. Cummins 7. Need to take 20 Indian wickets quickly.

I can’t speak for all those MCG test matches in the past, only for this one right now. Only one of the three innings has resulted in a score of less than three hundred.

That took what Mark Waugh described as the best spell of fast bowling he’d ever seen from Bumrah. Even then number ten and eleven plonked it around for fifty five runs. This is not a standard day five pitch. Once the ball gets soft at thirty five overs or so, batting loses most of its challenge.

A draw is not a win for India. If the last three tests result in three draws, with two from bad weather and one from a dead pitch, then that’s pretty much an act of god.

But now they go to Sydney with India only needing a draw to retain the trophy. I take your point, but I just reckon they could have sent them in late yesterday.

Failed to bowl them out on the last day twice when they were last here, about to fail to do it again. Same 4 bowlers.
They've failed to get us out cheaply or quickly enough to get wins after the first Test as well.

Batting has started to get easier, bowlers haven't had a lot of luck and the bowling attacks have tired as the series and matches have gone on. For both sides. Simple as that.

The interesting thing about DRS is the assumption that the umpire's guess is more likely to be correct than the computer's guess.

Is that really true?

I don't think that's the assumption at play, seeing it's been designed around making sure the umpires aren't fazed out of the game.

The principle underpinning DRS was to correct clear errors in the game whilst ensuring the role of the umpire as the decision-maker on the field of play was preserved, bearing in mind the element of prediction involved with the technology - Kumble 2021

To let umpires be that decision-maker, you have to allow a range of decisions where you're willing to disregard whatever DRS says (whether right or wrong). Ultimately, it's no different to what an umpiring decision is where it is completely irrelevant if it is hitting the stumps or not, if the umpire thinks it is hitting the stumps.

The pitch is not great but even Siraj (not just Bumrah) looked dangerous yesterday and that was with a 30+ over ball. Is the pitch that fundamentally different from yesterday?
