I think even if he (Hazelwood) is fit, he should have to earn his place back in the Test team. Scott Boland can not simply be considered a "back up" option anymore. He has done more than enough to warrant himself a regular starter in Australia's Test team. He has 56 wickets at an average of 17.66 - that's a better bowling average than Cummins (22.43), Hazelwood (24.57) and Starc (27.78). There's simply no reason to leave him out of the Test team apart from the fact that he averages 52 outside Australia. But at the very least he should be a regular in the team.
They should all rotate through the summer (bar Cummins if he's fit). They did it in the 2019 Ashes with Siddle and Patto alongside the big 3 and it worked really well, but they haven't really done it again since. Several summers in a row Aus struggled with cooked fast bowlers towards the end of series.

The way it played out due to injury this summer is inadvertently how it should have gone anyhow (if a fit Haze came in for Starc in Sydney). Start with the big 3, Boland pencilled in for the pink ball test, MCG and SCG, whilst resting either Hazlewood or Starc based on form and fitness.

Yes it's totally fair to compare a kid who's barely played first class cricket let alone test cricket for Australia to 3 veterans and a 31 year old debutant.

Also when Warner first started in the test squad he absolutely did what Konstas has the last few innings. Was swinging out his ass every ball just about.

He rattled the Indians with his first innings, his refusal to bow to Kohli's attempt at intimidation, and his willingness to stand up for his batting partner in the face of Bumrah's frustration.

He threw them off balance, not so much by weight of runs after his first innings, but through his aggression and confidence.

It absolutely played a role in breaking the confidence and concentration of the Indians.

But we hate tall poppies.

He'll be a player if he can tighten his technique and find a balance with his batting aggression.

He'll be a real point of difference if he can do that, a la Warner.

I'm up for the ride.

I'd rather see a young bloke succeed than gloat on his potential failure.

You need to have watched Konstas this year at Shield to understand there was clearly a strong directive from the team for him to play as loose and aggressive as possible. He made his runs at Shield playing more traditional while still keeping a good strike rate.

Clearly, the team was getting too bogged down with 4 stodgers in the top 4 and frankly, The Don would have struggled a bit against Bumrah on those decks with these Kooka balls. The team made the right decision to get in a prodigious talent to rankle the Indian team and be aggressive.

Now, his shot today was shithouse but hardly a surprise given he's 10 years away from learning his game properly. He's still been the best opener for Aus this series and there's not much more to replace him at Shield anyway, especially considering Ussie is on his last legs.

But again, go watch some of shield digs this year to understand what he normally plays like and how special he's going to be.

As much as the Bill and Tony thing was a piss take with he 12th man Bills passion was unmatched and his commentary was brilliant. Boland would have had him going mental

Oh, for the old days when the commentary was a classy as the cricket.

McGilvray, Lawry, Benaud etc

they were drinking beers so he would have vacated the area.

Is he not even comfortable/allowed to be in the vicinity of alcohol?

I assumed the issue with the champagne shower that time was because he was likely to get drenched in it.

Didn't know that he couldn't physically be near an opened can.

In this particular series, what Konstas served up was a positive for us overall.

Indian cricketers and supporters alike would have much rathered he be plying his craft in the BBL this summer.

Not 100% sure about it all just assuming he has left the area due to the beers. Boys probably splash a bit around.

He made a point of difference.

He broke the 'same old same old' we were seeing, and by their own admission, he brought a new vitality and excitement to the veterans.

He clearly rattled the Indians, and had them more focused on 'playing the man' than focusing on the long game.

He played a positive role indeed.
