I honestly think that is why they have gone with Webster over Marsh due to Starcs fitness. If Starc was 100% reckon marsh might still of been picked regardless of form
Possibly right, but Webster deserves his shot. He’s been excellent for the last couple of years. Shame Marsh had to go, but I Hope Webster has a good one

dropping a dangerously punishing batsmen when the batting line up is already dicey raises some question marks in my eye. rohit/kohli should be the ones made example of. kohli made an ass of himself last test and only made runs in perth - other than the second innings he’s been ordinary. sharma is just dreadful & has little impact on the pitch or in the field.

with that in mind, im not complaining

Make examples of all three of them

Surprised at the angst regarding Webster. To me it was a no-brainer. Webster may well wind up being a 1 test player, or 2 or 3 depending what happens on the next couple of tours, but Marsh was doing nothing. He didn't look like scoring a run and could give you 4 overs a test.

Webster has the form and even if he fails twice batting he'll be able to give 8-10 overs an innings. From that alone he's more valuable than Marsh. I was potentially in favour of going with 6 batters with McSweeney at 6 and jamming in a few overs from Head-Labuschagne (ideally bowling spin...)-McSweeney if a chop out is needed, but with Starcs fitness being somewhat a query going with an actual all-rounder who could at least provide a real no.5 bowling option is the right idea.

Going forward, questions around Greens capacity to bowl long term will be looked at. He made no.4 his spot his own until the injury, so is good enough to bat top 4, I wouldn't be shocked if his bowling loads go down given how many back injuries he's had.
It’s a no brainer but just not as “exciting” long term. Would’ve been nice to get Marsh through this series and reassess at Sri Lanka after the Shield season but it didn’t pan out that way.

Yes I’d rather hold it in the new year couldn’t care less if there’s a bit of weather around. There’s been rain at every venue bar Perth this year. You will lose millions in the fundraising alone they aren’t changing it
I love the cause but tough luck if it does? It’s a test match first and foremost. I’m also not sure 5 full days in December would net less than 2 and a half days in Jan

I don't know if we can assume Cam Green is going to be an all rounder moving forward. He might just end up being a Batsmen. Thankfully he is good enough to bat at 4 and not bowl. Goes to show just how ridiculous a human Jaques Kallis was.

How many batsman would have scored more shield runs than Webster in the last 18 months?

He deserves a shot.

I remain skeptical that his batting technique will hold against Bumrah or his bowling will be penetrative enough at test level but it's not like there is a long list of unlucky batsman out there.
To be fair, no batsman has a technique that holds up against Bumrah at the moment.

His 23/24 season was very good. But his performance in 24/25 has been average. But I look foward to seeing what he brings!

You need a fifth bowler in SL you just do mate.
Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne say hello (Steve Smith can have a few overs too).

Sure, they’re not as good as the proper bowlers in the side, but they’re certainly up to the task of restricting the Sri Lankans and keeping it economical with the odd wicket here and there.

Smudger almost pulled out his inner Michael Clarke in the last home Ashes by taking a couple of wickets to win the game.

Underutilised imo. As is Marnus bowling spin, which I have no idea why he stopped to bowl the absolute dross he does now as it was more than handy as a changeup.
