Looking at post Starc, Hazlewood and Lyon the likely contenders are pretty much all number 11 bunny's.

(Batting averages)
Spencer Johnson. 5.4.
Todd Murphy. 13.5.
Jyhe Richardson. 6.0

Cummins at 8, Murphy at 9 (lol), Richardson at 10 and Johnson at 11.

We will need a good number 6.

Cooper Connelly the obvious answer.

Marsh had to go but I’m not sure Webster is the answer. Can’t really argue with his Shield record so he deserves a go on that alone but I’m not sure he’ll be much more reliable than Marsh. Feel like he’ll get found out at the next level just like the guy he’s replacing.
We need to find out if Webster is up to it & it's not like he will contribute less than Marsh of late.

We need to be looking at allrounder options for Sri Lanka. The likes of Hardie or Maxwell i gather in the mix too.

Hopefully Green comes back ok after, but we may need to manage his bowling loads too.

Jhye's first-class batting average is 21.

Marsh starved of opportunity with the ball after the first test. Yes he got carted in the second innings of that test but apart from Hazelwood, so did everyone else. When he was bowling well (first innings) Captain Cummins dragged him after only letting him bowl 5 overs. He had figures of 2 for 12 at that stage which was better than what Cummins was producing (0 for 41 after 11 overs).

Selfish captain.
No Marsh just isn't any good.....and I am from WA....more miss than hit sadly

Yes I’d rather hold it in the new year couldn’t care less if there’s a bit of weather around. There’s been rain at every venue bar Perth this year. You will lose millions in the fundraising alone they aren’t changing it
While the fundraising is a great cause it has nothing to do with the scheduling date of a test match.

It is because Cricket Australia does not have the guts to move the Sydney Test to earlier in the season when it should be played.

they are no more/less likely to have bad weather earlier in the season.

As other posters have said Cooper Connolly should be on that tour.

Maxwell meh I kinda think the horse bolted a long time ago there.

Hardie IMO is not up to it and won't be on the tour.

Maxwell no where near the mix. Has played eff all red ball cricket this season.

As much as I feel like he's one of the most mismanaged careers of all time, going back to him now is not the right call. The horse has bolted, we can't be picking 35+ year olds that are unknown quantites.

We're much better off looking at someone like Coops or keeping Konstas around - I think Sri Lanka would be a super tough series for him given his apparent weakness against spin, but learning and experience wise it will be immense.

Connolly has played only 4 1st class & 8 list A games. Has no 1st class wickets yet & only 3 list A wickets @ 57... so don't reckon he is ready yet.

Richardson, Bartlett are pretty handy with the bat. Morris is a bunny. Johnson is another bunny. Sam Elliot, Fergus Oneill can bat. I have a feeling we’re gonna have some quicks come from the recent under 19’s squad and find themselves in the test side.

Jhye shouldn't even be in the squad yet, let alone in the team.
half baked boo GIF

Yes. Sydney's rain is very consistent through the year. There has been no discernible pattern (wet season/dry season) for several years.

I love the cause but tough luck if it does? It’s a test match first and foremost. I’m also not sure 5 full days in December would net less than 2 and a half days in Jan

They are not changing it regardless of how much people want to. It’s the New Years Test. They aren’t holding it in November while half the crowd is working. It’s just not happening whether everyone wants it or not.

Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne say hello (Steve Smith can have a few overs too).

Sure, they’re not as good as the proper bowlers in the side, but they’re certainly up to the task of restricting the Sri Lankans and keeping it economical with the odd wicket here and there.

Come off it they as if they are fifth bowlers. Marnus bowling Lol! Webster gives you options as you can play a third spinner in SL- we are playing at least 2, it’s just whether we play 3 or just the 2. Webster would double as that quick. Ideally it would be Green but he’s the best option as that type

Pretty sure you ruled out Webster before Melbourne and Marsh was the best option in that position currently....
