I wonder what his mental state is. Because there have been times when he looks like he could tear games apart (last year).

This year he looks like a deer in the headlights

Pods actually did some notable things, though. Smack had a promising back half of 2015, in a bad side, and has not fired a single shot this year.

mckernan doesn't look motivated - possibly questioning the intentions of the coaching panel. I am similar - not comfortable playing a strategy to secure picks. Sure it would be nice to get a free hit in psd and no.1 pick but I still like to see the team win. I'm not sure others at the club do currently.

Or maybe, just maybe, he's a confidence player and he's sorely lacking it. There was talk he had mental demons of some stripe even before he came here, remember.

As for the second bit, prior to the Brisbane game we had two games in a row against sides much higher on the ladder and came very close to winning both, and only failed to because of shithouse kicking for goal. I know you're looking for any excuse to pot the coaching panel because of the circumstances behind why they came to be, but at least try and be objective about it.

Is he carrying a thigh/upper leg injury still?
I doubt Woosha would be forcing him to play whilst injured in the AFL for three weeks straight.

Just horribly out of touch/motivation?

Well, in 2015 he was the closest thing we had to that in the ruck, as Bellchambers lost form with injury and confidence and Giles just didn't show up at all.

Maybe he relished being the main man? Who knows.

I think even without his good game yesterday he would have had a spot on the list next year. We have no back up ruckman besides Gach who is nowhere near ready. Unless we have plans to recruit another ready made ruckman, Smack should stay.

Bellchambers?

I still agree though that he'll get another year as back up and versatility.

It's possible that he has been injured all year.
Doesn't excuse the ducking of head when in front of a marking contest. It's also possible everyone was carrying an injury. Sounds like an excuse to me. I just don't think he's good enough to be any more than a third ruck option.
