Good forward for once (although if you can't beat Lynden Dunn you're struggling) but you cannot play him as a ruck. Just can't give away imbecilic frees like he did.

I thought this was really good. Agree his ruck work not the best but you cant argue with his endeavour and attack on the all - very strong at the contest I thought. Pay him permanent forward against the Gold Coast in the next game and if he can kick another 3+ goals he just might be a round 1 smokey....

Seems like a very McKernan thing to do to have great games when the pressure is off but shit the bed once the real thing starts.

It was definitely a promising performance but I'll be waiting to see how he goes come round 1 (or whenever)

Literally tore apart the Blues at the Dome for the Crows a few years back in the NAB, we thought back then he has arrived.

Hopefully he can build on yesterday and become the footballer that he was meant to be.

Mc Kernans whole career has been showing massive potential but never follows thru with it.

Correct. Thats been Smack's problem throughout his career. Has the potential to be a bona fide match winner if he fulfilled his potential or even played the way that has in some games.

At the Crows, when he was in the SANFL, literally has torn apart the opposition in some games. Has had some decent games at the Crows were he did similar. But as you said never has done this consistently.

I think his bigger problem is his height. I just don't think he's a forward, and up there he has good games and lots of poor ones. And he's better at lower levels where defenders are less agile and shorter.

In the ruck, he gets taken to the cleaners by taller ruckmen. Again, at lower levels where the rucks are slower and shorter, not a problem. But he gets found out at AFL level. Resulting in him consistently giving away frees, and frequently being beaten in the ruck.

I reckon look at any other ruck in the afl and they don't get pinged for what he does. **** in that last quarter the umps went to town on us and the whole interpretation that had been there for the match was chucked out.

I can see why he does it. He just panics, he is a lot shorter than the ruck man he came up against in 2015, and it's a reactionary thing to put the arm around the shoulder/neck almost as if he is trying to get leverage.

Exactly. It's impossible when the umpires don't implement a consistent rule themselves. There's nothing wrong with rucks using their body, it's the whole point of the contest. One of the most frustrating and stupid components of our inept umpiring.

Umpire no.32 seemed to be on a mission - one of the issues with allowing betting on sports...

Have said it before...

He's that awkward height that's too short to ruck & isn't good enough to be a perm forward. He's in no mans land & is why he never gets an extended run at senior footy.

Makes you wonder why he was never trialled in defence usually the first thing you do with athletic skilful players who can't find the ball up forward is move them to defence.

He was and was getting smashed in the SANFL
