This is crap. Goddard is the only player we have that can see a step of ahead of "see ball, get back, kick ball."

Much maligned, and unfairly.

He'll put a kick or handball into open space for a player to run on to, but he rarely has support or anyone coming past. Most of the team are flat-footed and are waiting for someone else to make something happen. This makes him look bad and an easy target, but he's the only player we have who's trying to get something going, right now.

He does tend to have one horrible clanger per game, but I'll take that over the majority of our efforts these days.

With all due respect...

The guy is not going to be in our next premiership. Hell...the way things are going, neither is McGrath.
It's clear that the unaccountable, quarterback type of game he is playing is not working for the team, and he was shown up by a guy 20kgs lighter than him in 1 on 1's today. Plus, he's never been quick, but looks to have lost a yard or two overnight.

His high possession games this year have been totally useless to the club.

FFS... this was CARLTON today. A team that hadn't won a game... and C grade players showed him up.

Big decisions need to be made, and I would start with him.

Club won't have to do anything will retire in frusrtration

Should be nursed through to round 21 against the Saints and retire then. Friday night game and a fitting send off.

Plays a mentoring role until then, with a week off here and there in between. Others should make way for the younger players in the meantime.

We need to take care of the likes of BJ. The club culture is better for it in the long run.

I’m a staunch defender of his and I still think he’s in our best 22.. I also don’t think the current tactical cluster**** coming out of the coaches box does him any favours either, they throw him around different positions, and his emotive responses make him a target for unfair criticism.

But I think the end might be nigh and there’s signs this year may be it for him. One thing I’ve noticed is he’s losing one-on-ones and also getting caught with the ball. Signs he’s not what he was.

He looked defeated today, needs a rest regardless let’s give Ridley a go in his role we have nothing to lose

What we should do is drop Mckernan, move Hooker forward which then allows Stewart to get the second best defender, make Hurley be the number two defender and then debut Ridley - I suspect if the team continues to play poorly it will cut short Goddard's career.

I'm not his biggest fan but yesterday it was obvious that this should be his last year. When you can't hold your feet in 1 on 1s the game is up. Especially when you're bigger than your opponent.

Posted a few weeks ago that when BJ is in our top 5 performing players and teams decide to tag him like yesterday, then it's not a recipe for success - The sad thing is if the team continues to perform poorly it will affect his position on the list in 2018.

I can’t see any reason to keep playing him. Thanks for the past 5 years, but if he is a true great leader he will put his hand up and say he isn’t up to it anymore. He needs to change the way he plays and also leads but currently seems incapable of doing that. There is zero upside for us to persist.

Once again put up on radio this morning to take the hits.

Senior player, polished media performer who really struggled to tell the “official story”.

I don’t think he’s great at hiding his true feelings and I think he’s pretty confused.

What a ****in mess.
Was hard to listen to.

It's embarrassing is what it is, he picked us because from the outside he saw potential and upward trajectory, the Saints punted him like last week's potato salad and he's essentially been cursed ever since. He's still obviously good enough to cruise around the halfback line and cut up sides with his leg if the rest of the side wasn't a rampaging dumpster fire. And would be an asset in finals too if we ever get back there.

As far as the tackles go, lets make a list, Webster, Hurn, Houli, Ellis, McVeigh, Blakely, Witherden, Haynes, Hodge, Hurn, Hartlett, Lloyd, Sicily, Suckling. All back flankers, all less tackles than Goddard this year, some significantly so.

I understand why some around here want to turf him, we don't even nearly deserve to have him.

He should have left as soon as the saga started, for his own sake.

I can't understand why this point hasn't been raised more. It wouldn't surprise me if Sicily has more weeks suspended than tackles this year.

What did everyone think of this guys game against the Cats on Saturday night?

Was at the game and was paying attention to his game. His intent, fitness and kicking is still there; but he seemed to find himself out of position frequently.

I didn't think he played horribly, but then again he doesn't look like the same Goddard of old anymore.

Reckon McGrath would play well in this role - setup from down back, makes good decisions, has a decent leap, great pace and can press up into the midfield.

Was good without being spectacular. I think at this point his role in the team is more of a general across half-back as opposed to being a quick play maker.

That being said, he still shows flashes of brilliance from time to time. Especially with his bullet passes inside 50.

I think BJ's main issue now is simply how slow he now is. He still sees ahead of the game better than most, but his body can't keep with what his mind wants to do anymore.

That said, I thought he was decent against Geelong.

I thought he was very good on the weekend in all honesty.

Read the play well, directed traffic and the kids listen to him which is good plus no one went with him which was a bit weird I thought. Not enough respect shown to someone who’s seasoned and knowledgeable of the game.

His pace is not great but we all get old and I wouldn’t be wholly surprised if there’ll be that tap on the shoulder come end of season.
