Reminds me of the training session before the 01 GF. A friend and I were waiting for players to sign stuff. Big crowds around the big names. Is it just my memory, or was he going ok in that role? Looking at his goal tally suggests otherwise but something is telling me he was better than expected there. I can't recall when or why he may have been shifted out based on injuries in the team etc.

Seems like he'll be pushed out of the midfield which is by far his 1 wood and he's not going to be around for anything we may or may not do in the next 5 years. I think Melbourne are a good fit so they can use Tracc fwd more

Gawn Oliver Viney Shiel at the centre bounce is pretty good
Similarly, the Pies & Saints i could see getting some value out of him.

i'm not sure we'd get much for him would we? If he wanted to if almost take what you could get.

If you could get a second round pick and pay some of his wage you would have to consider it . With Parish staying we would be better off with either a young bloke or another cheap Setterfield type .

A move could be of mutual benefit to both parties.

We need to rebalance our midfield and introduce better users of the ball.
It would be win for Dyl end up at a contender late in his career.

We should've traded him 2 years ago, but oh well.

If he stays he's probably battling it out with Perkins for a HFF/mid spot in the 22, which is more an indictment on Perkins than anything else. Parish, Merrett, Hobbs, Setterfield and Caldwell all ahead of him for on-ball time, with Tsatas also needing the minutes.

I'd see if St.Kilda are interested - they could use a bit of burst speed in their midfield and a mature player like Shiel could help them hold their top 8 spot.

I think the only reason I'm keeping Shiel now is for the leadership he shows through his setting of professional standards, and I think that would be the main reason Scott might keep him. Otherwise, he needs to go so we can refine the composition of the midfield. I'd think any club that thinks it has a show to win the 24 premiership would be looking at whether Shiel can bolster their chances and depth.

He was nailing his shots at goal before injury, which was a huge improvement on 2022.
