My question is put out to those of you that have been playing this beloved game of Dream team for a longer period of time than myself and I'm sure many others...

In the lead up to the final week before the first lockout is upon us i thought it might be a good idea to think about your track record in how you have previously gone in picking the Dream Team bargains over the years.

It probably wasn't until last year were I started to use all the types of resources available in picking my initial dream team for the AFL year ahead. Sites such as Bigfooty, Finalsiren, foootywire etc are all frequently and intently accessed by myself in the lead up to a new season of AFL, in the hope of finding those players to burst on to the DT scene and seperate my team from the pack.

I'm interested in hearing your track record of how you have gone picking those players from relative obscurity...

I remember a few years back Shane Tuck, Daniel Cross & Jobe Watson would have been excelent pick ups from their respective initial pricings proppeling the coaches who knew their stuff to the top. I was too young & nieve to really know the process's in identifying these hidden gems at the time but I'm sure many of you werent.

So tell us some of your own stories perhaps your proud to say you told everyone who would listen that such a player would fill a gap and skyrocket to DT stardem. Personally I was pretty happy with myself when I selected Nathan Foley for my initial squad and saw how well he went during 2007.

Time to reflect on the star DT you already may be:thumbsu:

Last year I picked my team a couple days before round 1 and it was hopeless. I picked Cameron Cloke who improved his average a lot last year, but that wasn't due to good research and he was probaby my only unique pick that did well for the price they started at.

Picked Carrots Carrazzo when he had his breakout year. Remember one game where he had about 20 touches in the first quarter (or was it half??). Have plenty of man-love for him these days!!!

i scored priddis in 2007. Knew he was a ball magnet from the WAFL and had him in my initial team. Got Pendlebury in 2007 as well i think it was. Buckley had retired the year before, and a spot was open in the magpies midfield. Not that much to it really.

Otherwise i cant really claim to have picked any other bolters

Priddis, Lewis, Foley and Pendelbury in 2007. I dominated with my midfield bolters that year.
i learnt my biggest lesson last year - don't make trades based on the BE's after 2 rounds. I initially picked Foley last year as well. But his 1st two rounds he didnt do that well, and Wallace wasnt giving him as much game time. I made a sideways trade only to see Foley dominate afterwards :(

Im not telling anyone who my sideways trade was to, but those who remember which names were getting thrown around can probably guess.

in 2007 i picked Scott Thompson, Lewis, Bartel, Birchall, Carazzo, J. Selwood and Adcock (obviously), think that was it haha - good year!

i remeber picking Hodge when he went from an average of 70 to 100 - although that was always going to happen.

Haha that's a great effort, what was your final ranking?

Very nice picks. What did you come that year Ausy? If you don't mind me asking.

230th. Was my first year of understanding how DT worked, and I struggled with some of my trading. Was delighted with my ranking though.

Actually forgot to mention that I also picked Bartel from the start that year aswell. Possibly more impressive than the other four. Don't remember who my 6th midfielder was. Probably a dud :p

Got Chris Knights in '07 (I think that was his first year). Missed out on Priddis though. Got Buddy, Deledio and Porps last year. To be honest I cant actually remember my teams from previous years, but remember those ones.. :p

Oh just remembered Hodge and Birch when they had their breakouts. That was more luck though - had a habit of picking lots of Hawks players for a few years.

Picked Bartel as my mid premium and captain in 07. That decision kept me in the top 100 for a good 2 months before everyone jumped on and I fell into the pack (finished ~211). Also picked Priddis and Pendlebury that year, can't remember any others.

Last year ... only Deledio and Porplyzia. Akermanis was also a good pick in terms of improvement until that month where he was scoring 30s.

Last year I had Porplyzia, Vince, Rioli, Ellis and Roughead from the getgo which gave me a bit of a giddyup.

Struggling to find anything "special" this year. My team is currently very uninspiring and pedestrian. Hopefully that changes in the next week!

Cant really remember these things, but simon buckley from last year rings a bell. I love that kid to bits, and he was a beauty?! Pity i traded him cos bloody bailey doesnt know anything and dropped him for 10 weeks. Grr.

My initial squad selection last year was atrocious. Hoping that changes this year.

I do have a habit of trading in mids that come good though. Traded in Boyd for the final ten rounds of 2007 when he averaged 104 and traded in Knights last year the week he started that run of five 100+ scores.

Apart from that, bugger all to write home about. Have a couple of names I'm deciding over at the moment, but not sure if I'll have the nerve to pick them.

Rivers
Davey
Foley
Murphy
Jarrad McVeigh

I wish this game kept track of previous teams... I always seem to forget what has gone on. Those are the first that come to mind.
