yeah remember watching Aliir train with the QLD u/18 team everyweek, he had a leap but he was a beanpole and looked super raw. Has come sooooo far since he moved over to WA and then to Sydney, plus he's had a few years now to develop in one of the better professional environments in the league. There is no guarantee that had he been drafted by the Lions he would be anywhere near the player he is today.
I beg to differ. Imagine the amount of experience he would have gained by being a defender at the Lions in that time? Hours and hours, most of it in his own 50..:p

Our boy Jack apparently did a fairly good job at the combine this year. He was top 10 in both standing vertical jump and running vertical jump.

I'm looking forward to Jumping Jack taking some hangers!

That picture confuses me. Why wouldn't he play for PBC in the QAFL if he attends the high school? Instead he plays for Labrador 40 minutes away. Confusing, no?

His been playing in previous years for Palmy , i dare say with his commitments to the higher level he would'nt play much if any games at QAFL level , i know Sheer did'nt play any games for Palmy this year.

CROSSLEY LOOKS 30 YEARS OLD
It's worth noting that he has a younger brother (Ashton) coming through the Suns academy a year later and is reportedly just as good at the same age. I presume both of the Crossley boys will be playing in the national championships for QLD in 2017.

Since the two Crossleys are likely to join Rory Thompson as members of the Suns with fathers that are members of the Southport Sharks' Hall of Fame, it got me wondering if there are any others coming through. Southport Hall of Famers that are likely in the correct age bracket:
  • Marcus Ashcroft (We know his son Will is coming through the GC academy)
  • David Ashkar
  • David Bain
  • Sean Ballans
  • Campbell Black
  • Dean Bowtell (Father Eddie was a legendary ruckman for Southport)
  • Mark Bradley
  • Jason Cotter
  • Sea Coughlan
  • Troy Crossley (We know sons Brayden and Ashton are coming through the GC academy)
  • Craig Crowley (Son Nick plays for Southport)
  • Royce Enders
  • Ben Headland
  • Robbie Jones
  • Scott Lawton
  • Rod Mackay
  • Nick Mansbridge
  • Phil McGarry
  • Gavan McGuane (Son Luke played for Richmond and Brisbane)
  • Steve McLuckie
  • Shaun Stephens
  • Clint Watts
  • Danny Wise
Plenty of names but my knowledge of local football isn't strong enough to point how many have sons coming through. Does anyone else know?

I thought it would use a first rounder before second
If he is bid on first round - our next years first round has to be downgraded by points used - will push that pick back in draft a fair way. If so won't have a first round pick next year unless we trade back into it. Lots of Second round 2017 picks covers us if a) he's selected in this years second round as most suspect or b)if we need future seconds to upgrade to firsts next year.
In a nutshell Scheer is covered - unless a list spot can't be provided for him...

Probably goes to PBC on an AFL Excellence Scholarship sponsored by AFLQ and the AFL. Palm Beach Currumbin High and Hellensvale High are the only Gold Coast Schools to run this elite AFL program. These schools have the strongest school AFL programs in Queensland and both usually play off in State school AFL finals...

I didn't know that.

That link says PBC have won the last 5 state cups and Helensvale won the 5 before that. I suppose Rory Thompson was at Helensvale back when they won in the late 2000s? The article also says Crossley, Dawson and Foster all played really well for PBC but only Dawson actually plays for the PBC Lions in the QAFL.

I can't express how surprised I am that a league loving school like PBC is becoming a factory for us!

yeah helensvale were pretty dominant team back then, especially when they had guys like thompson, bozzo and a guy called dalton tucker playing for them. talk around the school was he was going to get drafted, but I think he became a model or something like that instead haha.
