Academic Adam Brown, 40, fronted the Melbourne Magistrates' Court where he has been charged with murder over an alleged incident at Croydon North, in Melbourne's north-eastern suburbs.

Mr Brown is a senior lecturer in digital media at Deakin University and is a prolific user of social media.

Police were called to a house at Patrick Avenue on Saturday night, where they found the body of a 35-year-old woman, who died at the scene.

Mr Brown appeared in court from the Melbourne West police station with what appeared to be an injury to his left arm.

What's all the crap on the bookshelf behind him in the pic Kurve ?
Computer games ?
Here's a better view of what's on his bookshelf taken from a LinkedIn video of his.

Board games, not computer games.

One of them is "Fog of Love".

'Two lovers try to navigate a relationship with different personalities.'

Seen it all before, rich dude with zero personality completely ignored by women in Australia goes over to Asia and gets a woman he had nothing in common with and when she finds out what he is really like things go pear shaped
Tbh, I think you are likely pretty spot on. I’m sure the Prosecution profiler will be looking at that picture with all those thoughts in mind. It’s disturbing how easily people type cast themselves. I’ve seen several pics of the ‘happy couple’ published over the past few days. I haven’t seen an ounce of happiness in any of them. Poor woman - and those kids. 🙁

Uni lecturer wage does not qualify as rich.
It’s a mixed bag here. A senior lecturer earns around $130-140K a year + 17% super. She was apparently working too at some point (although what as in not clear).

A newish house in the suburb they were in (which is seriously down town) on a long-term loan is very manageable even on the one income.

I don’t think this was a happy marriage. Just my opinion.

She was apparently working too at some point (although what as in not clear).

Reportedly she'd just returned to work, and there was some family dispute over this.
Evidence of this and some more details on what is alleged to have occurred in this new article tonight below.

'A neighbour who did not want to be named said Ms Cheng screamed “help me, help me” and “call the police, he wants to kill me” as she banged on the inside of her locked front door on Saturday night.

“That’s when she took her chance and ran to the wood door (back gate) and started banging on it but it went quiet,” the neighbour said.

“She was shouting for her life.”

The back gate, which was also locked, was eventually opened and a neighbour desperately tried to save Ms Cheng before paramedics arrived.'

'The neighbour said Dr Brown, 40, had his hands covered in blood.'

'A close friend of Ms Cheng said her husband was not happy that she had returned to work and wanted her home caring for their two-year-old son.
“Her son often cried when she left him at daycare … this didn’t sit well with Adam,” the friend said.
“I think Adam wanted Chen to just full time care for (their son) but she wanted to stay at work.”
It’s understood Ms Cheng had only returned to her building industry job weeks before she was killed.'

'“She always wanted the best for her son and she wanted to go back to work,” the friend said.
“The little fella had only been in daycare for a month.”
The toddler was home at the time of his mum’s alleged murder and was taken in by a neighbour.'

Honestly, if this neighbour is being quoted accurately, they are going to need to zip it or they won’t be allowed to give evidence at the trial. If what the Hun has quoted is true and this person is called as a witness, their testimony will be crucial. Initial reports made it sound like the whole thing took place indoors. A victim screaming and pounding on a gate and that neighbour rushing to render assistance will be a very, very compelling case. I was wondering if police may have been optimistic that they would get s murder charge to stick, but hopefully this witness will be able to assist the Prosecution hugely.

Realise the media was desperate for pics - any pics… but I’ve looked at this on a large screen just to be certain and… that’s just swaddling there - no infant.

Everything surrounding this story is odd.

I don't want to sound cruel but people like that treat women like property

A few more guilty pleas prior to the trials starting would be good.

'7:10pm Sep 13, 2022'

'Her husband Adam Brown, 40, was arrested and charged with murder in May.

He appeared by video link from prison in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.

Magistrate Rohan Lawrence said he was satisfied there was enough evidence to commit Brown to stand trial in the Supreme Court and asked how he would plead to the murder charge.

Dressed in a suit, Brown cried as he entered his plea.

"Guilty, Your Honour," he told the court.'

'He will next face the Supreme Court for a directions hearing on September 30.'

This is quite gruesome. His wife knew she was going to be murdered but couldn't get away from him. In those circumstances I'm not sure pleading guilty will get him any sentencing concessions.

Ms Cheng’s neighbour, who did not want to be named, told the Herald Sun that on the night of her death, Ms Cheng shouted “he wants to kill me” and ran to the wooden back gate of the home the pair lived in together in an attempt to escape.

It was reported at the time that Ms Cheng banged on the gate, but by the time it was opened, the neighbour was unable to save her.

The same neighbour alleged Brown’s hands were covered in blood.

Lots of details in this article from today in court.
Best you read it all for yourselves.

'Brown silently sobbed from the dock as details of his wife’s murder were aired during a pre-sentence hearing at Melbourne’s supreme court on Friday.'

'Hallowes said Brown was struggling to cope and suffering stressors prior to the murder, asking for him to be jailed for less than 25 years.'

'Brown was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.'
