Nope.

But I do know we've had one for a number of years.

There was one in place for the 1993 GF, that person has since been at Geelong.

It's interesting nonetheless.

In that case, I think the information I've recieved in regard to this issue is more in regard to the specific roles of sports psychologists.

From what I hear, and from a person who would definately know, the Draft Camp Psychological testing is more likely to be found in a bin than at the top of any piles.

I know we have not drafted a person because of his psycho motor test...

You'd be surprised...

I'm talking on the basis of a really interesting conversation I had with a bloke in the know at an office function a few weeks back.

Given that I'm not speaking first hand, I can't really agree or differ with you.

Interesting stuff all round though.

on Sports Psychs: Brisbane (at least) had one during their triplicate. SUrely you remember the profiling they had? Split everyone itno 3 personality types or something like that

I met a bloke once or twice who was a motivational speaker for footy teams & individual players, he had worked with psychologists at various clubs since the mid-late 90s, so I assumed it was common practice

As for Dodoro: yes, I had heard that Sheeds was the recruiting manager as well, & that Dodoro was really only supplying suggestions. Still, I think sicne 2002 we've done well, & 1999 was a very under-rated piece of drafting considering the picks we had. Picked up a handy ruckman & a few more talents as well, late down the draft. 2000 & 2001 were pretty much write-offs, not that I'd complain about much in those years (maybe Disco's mind was elsewhere?)

Great news about Hirdy. It was great to hear what he had to say at the announcement with regards to the midfield...

But the Dud(oro) had the following to say...

Though the midfield struggled at times last season and was perceived as a weakness, Dodoro said drafting gun onballers was not necessarily the priority.

"People say our midfield (is a weakness) but we have drafted a lot of midfielders in the past couple of years," he said.

"It is just that they are slightly immature and we really expect them to start to blossom next year.

"And we think there are some blokes on the list that will actually come back into their own like (Jason) Winderlich (Mark) McVeigh. "They've got a lot of good footy left in them."

I remember he said the same thing leading up to the Myers draft . You can wake up a bloke who is sleeping. But you can never wake up a guy who is pretending to sleep. If our list manager doesn't recognise our glaring weakness for like the last 8 years, then no point keeping him on. Sack him immediately I say, before this draft, before he brings in another KPP.

Do you honestly believe he'll let the whole footy world know which group we are targetting? There are some things which need to be kept secret, and recruitment especially is a crucial part in achieving success; no point letting everyone know (including the other clubs list managers). He covered all basis in that article, as he should. He'll have a strategy, and we won't know the exact details of the strategy until the draft is upon us.

I was under the impression that all the best young players except for Day and possibly Darling were midfielders anyway. I would have thought there would be very little chance that we don't take a midfielder with pick 8.

Bloody awesome to read the buzz about our club from the young draftees, hopefully this spreads through to some other experienced AFL midfielders we end up targetting!

posted a similar quote of the afl website from him in the draft thread

“We don’t think that we have a major weakness in our midfield,” he said.

“Having said that, around our pick there will be a number of quality mids, but there will also be some quality talls as well.

“There’s a couple of ruckmen there and we’ve made no secret of the fact that we want to improve our midfield but we’re also looking at another ruckman as well.”

Melksham, Colyer, Long, Howlett, Prismall, Zaharakis, Silverlock.

He has a point. If he expects five or six of these to develop into best 22 midfielders and they also have Winderlich, Stanton, Watson, Jetta as well we'll be set.

Look we all know that we will be hoping to land a quality midfielder with pick 8. But Dodoro actually raises a good point

we have a lot of midfielders on our list or players who could play midfield. However we either havent seen them play a lot of time in the midfield or they for whatever reason (injury, form etc) havent been able to play there.
Realistically all we need is for one or two of our midfielders melksham, collyer, zaka, jetta, houli, howlett etc to become A graders and all of a sudden we have a good midfield. Personally I only think melksham has the ability to become a genuine A grade midfielder so I do think we need to focus on draftinng more midfielders particularly with our first few picks. However in saying that Dodoro raises a good point we do have plenty of midfielders, the only question is how many of them can you see becoming A graders.

You never know with a new coaching department, developing team and game plan we might see some of these players blossom.

"People say our midfield (is a weakness) but we have drafted a lot of midfielders in the past couple of years," he said.

True

"It is just that they are slightly immature and we really expect them to start to blossom next year.

True

"And we think there are some blokes on the list that will actually come back into their own like (Jason) Winderlich (Mark) McVeigh. "They've got a lot of good footy left in them."

Debatable about McVeigh, but Winders and Stants will surley have better seasons

Really those quotes aren't very bad, and it's pretty obvious that we'll be looking at a midfielder at pick (8?).

We have drafted many mid's over the last few years.

The issue becomes around playing them. McVeigh, NLM, Watson, Winderlich, Stanton, Welsh & Prismall are our experienced mids. We know they're not going to get us close to a flag.

So, the challenge is around ensuring the likes of Zaka, Melksham, Colyer, Myers, Houli, Jetta, Dempsey etc get the opportunity to become the best they can be. We know the senior guys best isn't goot enough.

That's fine but Mark McVeigh in the midfield? That ship sailed 2 years ago.
