Ross will know his side is woefully outmatched talentwise man for man.
So fully expect a flood fest in his grand final.

Wouldn't be surprised if it manifests a completely turgid upset victory no one will replay or want to remember.

I remember this fixture being an absolute graveyard game for Geelong for the past decade. Always the overwhelming favourites and pretty much always lose. It's mind boggling to think that overconfidence might be a concern for Geelong.

In both of our most recent years where we've missed the eight (2015 and 2023), St Kilda at Marvel late in the season was the death knell. We were blown away in the second half last year and it cost us a top two finish. It was our last loss in 2022. I even remember a game around 2016 where we were smashed in the first half, mounting a furious comeback to get back in front and then they pinched it back from us with Jade Gresham and Jack Steven goals in the last couple of minutes.

I believe Rowan Marshall has six votes from his last two games against us and seven from his last three, so I'd be interested to see how he's pulled up after he had ice on his leg on the bench in the last quarter on Sunday. But I don't feel good about this game at all.

We generally play well against you at Marvel. In fact we kind of walloped you in the second half of our game last year with some nice attacking footy. Seems unlikely to happen this time but you don't play at the ground very often.

The style of play in that second half was the most interesting thing to me: it was just end-to-end, quick short/medium kick, hit a target, move it quickly, short/medium kick, hit a target, move it quickly. Rinse and repeat.

And the Saints were hitting targets and taking contested marks and there wasn't anything we could do. From memory, they butchered a bunch of chances too, like it was six goals or something in the third and could have easily been 10.

We definitely need to get some guys back, Marshall and Sinclair looked very underdone against Adelaide.

Hoping Keeler finally debuts.

Expecting Geelong to torch us.

A defensive game plan only works when we have the defence to execute it. We currently don't.

Cats by a mile

Saints defence has a hole in it without Battle and the newcomers can't cover his role. Cordy toils hard but can't cover the very tall forwards like Howard can. Cats have a forward line where they all have x factor. Result will be another scoring fest and likely worse then the Adelaide result.

As for the saints scoring. The forward line has been decimated and what remains does not have much foward nous. It's just Higgins let's face it.

Result - Cats will score heavily and the saints will struggle to break 60 points.

Cats by 10+ goals (and could be double that)

Can't wait for some lovely fast-paced Rossball

Serious question. Why are cats fans so salty with the saints and throwing the boot in?

I headed over to your forum to see if COS had job security for the future and it's non stop bashing the saints?

Why though? On our forum we couldn't care less about your team, your just another number per se.

I haven't noticed much "bashing" really, except the common theme being Geelong should win this, and win well.

Some have probably been a bit distasteful, but nothing out of the ordinary or particularly Saints focused. We were probably more worked up over Freo last week tbh, given their recent KP record.

On a whole though, I wouldn't read much into oppo preview threads at all. It's BigFooty after all, nuffie central on all sides.

A preview thread after a win the week before is basically "tHey arE bAd and We Are dA beST, wE R gOnnA wIn!!" while a loss the previous week will just breed posts forecasting a 10 goal loss.

We're lucky enough to be riding the wave of the first example this week, so I'd say that's what you've been reading.

I think it's more based on the fact we should be able to beat a weakened St Kilda team who were thrashed last week....yet consistently lose at Marvel to the Saints in similar scenarios. If anything the comments have been harsh about Geelong failing to get the job done in those previous encounters, while being prepared to go through it again.

I'd guess it might be a little bit subconscious, given our history in this particular game (St Kilda at the dome), where the Saints have beaten us so frequently and it's genuinely derailed (or threatened to) so many of our seasons over the past decade - see my previous post.

We don't worry about it with the benefit of hindsight, but Geelong fans were seething after the loss last year: 5+ goals in front, top two sewn up and we were just blown off the park after half time. Same thing in 2022: it was in the first half of the season, but that loss at Marvel 'clearly' signalled to me that our ceiling was bottom half of the eight and we were just making up the numbers that year.

You often see some less than gracious posts from the winning supporters on here following our annual loss to St Kilda at Marvel, but that comes with the territory. If a top four side consistently looks mediocre playing against your mid-table side, you're going to think they're not as good as their ladder position suggests. Naturally.

To the wider point: who knows? From our side, look at Geelong v Collingwood compared to Geelong v Hawthorn or Richmond. I've lost count of how many finals we've had against the Pies over the last 15-20 years (with the results pretty even) and in five of the six premierships won by those clubs since 2007, they've had to go through the other in the finals on their way to the the flag, but there doesn't seem to be any of the same venom in our rivalry with Collingwood as there is with the other two. Why? Beats me.

Rubbish, Adelaide just kicked 20 goals against us, you will do the same.

We always beat you late in the season on our typical too little too late season revival.

You guys are either coasting and take us easy or you're not in contention and have given up for the year.

Thats why.

I don't get the Geelong fans criticising Ross ball as boring. I'm still scarred by them playing like the Harlem Globetrotters in the second half last year.

Hopefully this week should be fine but it's hard to have confidence when they've beaten us comfortably the last 3 times at Docklands.

Jokes aside the Ross ball thing is kind of outdated.

He wants us playing a more attacking brand its just we're not good enough to do so.

Cats should win, but Ross the boss will be extremely defensive trying to stop the Cats forwards, it will be closer than we all think. With Smith now a late withdrawal, Cats mid field takes a hit so it's Saints by 19 points.

We don’t like Ross’s style gameplay and it’s been a blight on the game …and saints fans have been throwing the boot into GFC whenever it gets the chance too I can remember all the shit we copped when SJ had his hand broken

Plus it really goes back to 2005 when saints fans and the media were saying how the saints had the best youths in the game and shat all over our kids ..so it might still be a lingering effect of that era.

I don’t hate the saints …but I really dislike Ross and a few of the players from 2009 era
