Good on you Trjn - Buchanan is a premiership player who did not fit into Sydney's plans for the future and despite our Football Dept.thinking he had something to offer us,his recruitment drew immediate criticism which is fair enough.

Despite showing good form in the pre-season and being injured in the early moments of game one and missing several games thereafter and yes, some errant disposals in last night's game there has been and is a concerted outcry to dump him already.

His sterling work in the 4th quarter when the chips were down which included a hand ball goal assist to Power and soon after the hand ball under pressure to Leuenberger to Redden whose long kick found Fev right in front at point blank range, all forgotten or at least not mentioned by his critics.

There is an old crude three word expression that ends in dead that I am tempted to use but,as usual,I shall refrain.

And for anyone who wants to pick up on Buchanan not fitting into Sydney's plans let me point out that Maguire did not fit into St.Kilda's plans.
Buchanan was vital in pushing the ball through the centre corridor, especially in those plays where we aborted the switch halfway through and caught the Collingwood players out of position.

When it worked, it worked incredibly well, when it didn't he drew our attention in the worst possible way. But he was far from our worst and I'm more than glad to admit I was wrong about him before.

Okay, I take back what I said about Buchanan. I've watched the game again this afternoon and even though he made a few glaring mistakes, he did more right than wrong.

Came on here to say the exact same thing. I was very disappointed with him last night, and said he's the only recruit I was thus far disappointed with, but I was wrong, going on last nights game,

I've seen the last quarter replay twice, and he was great. Clean, found the ball, linked up, and delivered it beautifully.

The third quarter just started... and I can't complain about his first half, probably didn't see enough of the ball, but he only had one GLARING turnover. I think Black had worse turn overs than Amon did!:p

He spotted up Browny well at least once, and was generally pretty good with his disposal.

Definitely earn't another game.

Speaking of the recruits... gotta admit, the man love for Goose- [oh, 17:02 left on the clock and Buchanan just had a shocking clanger going inside 50]- and Staker is going through the roof last night.

While no one has doubted Goose at any point over the last 10 weeks as he continues to improve on an already brilliant start to the season, Staker was down right -[Buchanan PERFECT pass to Browny! 14:55 on the clock, goal]- amazing last night, and could not have done more for us. Hoping for plenty more performances like that!:thumbsu:

And Fev. Had an absolute stinker of a first half, just love the way he never gave up and ended up playing a huge part in the second half.

What a win!

Watching last night's game it is very clear how reliant the team is on Brown's form. It's why I wasn't too concerned is the losses - I was sure that as soon as Browny turned it around the team would as well.

It is however very concerning for when Browny retires. (It kind of reminds me of teh influence Voss had on the team and what happened when he retired)

Also Vossy's words on Johnstone after the game were very telling I think.

Browny had only one or two touches in the last quarter?

Watching last night im more worried when Blacky and Power retire

You need to watch more of Collingwood.

Forwards were terrible: Malthouse

COLLINGWOOD coach Mick Malthouse has labelled his forwards “terrible” after the Magpies lost to the Lions by eight points at the Gabba on Saturday night.

While quick to praise the Lions for their effort in hauling in a 15-point half-time deficit, Malthouse was critical of his side’s inability to convert opportunities in its forward 50.

“Forwards were terrible,” he said. “We got the ball inside 50 54 times, so the ball is in there; you’ve just got to score.”

Alan Didak booted two goals in the first quarter while Steele Sidebottom and Chris Dawes also kicked two each.

But John Anthony (one goal) and Travis Cloke (none) failed to have a significant impact.

Malthouse said the Magpies didn’t necessarily miss the services of injured Paul Medhurst and Leon Davis.

“Not really; their form hasn’t been sensational so I wouldn’t be getting too caught up in it,” Malthouse said.

Was pretty interesting to hear Malthouse flat out call his entire forward department "terrible".

It may be the cynic in me, or perhaps the political scientist, but it seemed to me to be a pretty transparent attempt to shift some of the blame from himself and onto their forwards coach (what's his name... Huckley... Duckley? Something like that)...

Feeling the heat is old Mick, he's hearing footsteps. Did anyone else notice how often he kept taking off his glasses and putting them back on in his press conference? It was like watching an episode of CSI:Miami.

Does anyone remember what the odds were before the game?

$4.25 at 1/4 time :thumbsu:

My other highlight for the night was immediately after the Siren sounded, Fev turned to the Pies Cheer squad pointed and yelled "F*** YOU!!" - Classic

Enjoy you win ,but don't get to carried away its a long season, and over the next 2 years aren't you guys liable to lose quite a few players who are getting on a bit, players like brown, fev, power, buchannan, black, rischotelli to gold coast ?

Then what ?

Your team is terribly inconsistant in fact your liable to lose to North next week, and the rot starts again.

Big mistake Voss playing injured players, doesn't help in the long run.

Now there's the good grace and charm I was expecting from Pies fans. :thumbsu:

If I were you I'd be more worried that your future coach is responsible for the one part of your team that isn't functioning well.

What happens in a few years after some of our big name players have retired? Same thing every team does, rebuild. Seems pretty obvious. Especially because the timing of those retirements means that we'll be starting our recruitment binge just after the compromised drafts instead of during them.

Right now we just need to focus on this season, we had a bad patch with poor form and a few injuries, now we're clearly past the worst of it.

What happens when your forward line gets found ou.... Oh wait. :)

Brown won the toss, we won the game!!! No more needs to be said lol!

Yeah, that stat fell through in Adelaide last week though.

First four rounds, Browny won the toss, we won the game.

Next four rounds, Browny lost the toss, we lost the game.

Round 9 vs. the Crows, Browny won the toss but we somehow lost the game.

Round 10 we won the toss and won the game again.

9/10 ain't bad.

If we win the toss at the Gabba we win the game ;)

When those players retire our young players in Acorn, Rockliff, Rich, Banfield, Redden, Bartlett etc will be in there 3rd and 4th years. They are all capable of been elite players.

I thought I'd imagined that!!:D..but I said to my husband I reckoned thats what he did....OMG that is just magnificent..

Well said Fev!!:D:thumbsu:

Re: Michael Voss - Coach

I thought I heard the other night that Buckley was in charge of the forward set up for the pies. If true, he certainly under estimated our "make-shift" back line by going so tall.

I just snuck over to the Pies board, glad I did...check out the thread "Hatred Unsurpassed" Post 27..

Just brilliant!!...seems we pleased quite a few....would love to have been at Etihad:D
