all this talk about the bloody APS league, need a thread about what the competition will be like next year. It looks like PEGS will again dominate with Maric, Joyce etc but who will come next? and who will be the stars of each team? Early call is that Trinity and Mentone will both be much improved and could pose a big threat!

yarra will also be an improver next year, with 5 u16 vic metro members, including blease who made AIS..all year 10 boys who will only get better in the next couple of years

Mentone will be mid table again, but may lose too many yr 12 TAC players and year 11 TAC players who are doing apprenticeships. Kieffer Smith Cameron will dominate like this year by winning the B&F two years in a row aswell as T.McMahon, G.Rowlands and H.Pyke all quality Bottom age TAC players. Watch out for Sam 'Migga' Maguire who has the hairiest stomach, chest, back and shoulders in the ags and will next year make a mark.
PEGS look the goods again for me though with peninsula and marcelin to be the biggest contenders.

Spot on sam maguire surely due for a shave. could find himself unavailable throughtout next season if he continues to run into trouble with the police. jarryd allan will be missed but who can blame him for takin up an apprentiship were he will earn an estimated $150K a year.

cheers for the replys, another interesting 1, who do we think will be captain of the nine teams?? if u dont know names just give numbers or positions i guess

Marcellin are apparently going to lose Luke Stanton to Eltham High and this should put a hefty dent in their armour. They always seem to lose a few to apprenticeships aswell, but i cant see them falling dramatically.

Captains will IMO be....
Marcellin=Luke Shuey
Trinity= ??? Brown (Tall/Lanky)
Ivanhoe=Michael Brunelli
Mentone=
PEGS=
Yarra Valley=
Peninsular=
Assumption=Jaxson ??? (Small/Quick)
Camberwell=

PEGS to win again as they will just buy a few more superstars

You might be thinking of Jackson Charles.. he was out all this year with a knee injury.

The captain for 2007 will be Jaimie Sheahan and i am 100% sure.. he is a superstar and should be a big chance for afl in 2009.

Will Holman, Seth Hill, Simon Collis and Jackson Charles are a couple of other names who will be in the leadership group.

ACK should be god next year and will push for a better finish then this year.. but obviously PEGS are favourites.

AGSV and APS will be merging soon.

Memo came out to schools this week that in all divisions except 1sts, 2nds and 10As that the fixtures would be made from combining schools of similar abilities from both competitions.

There is a common held view from delegates of the majority of these schools (from both comps) that a combined league at ALL levels would be a positive step for the future.

Makes sense - there are 11 APS schools and 9 AGSV schools. A 2-tiered system rewarding stronger schools in the A-grade division would be a fantastic showcase for school footy. The delegates are concerned that TAC cup is gaining too much momentum and cutting too deep into the traditions of school footy. This system seems like their flagship.

Here's my tip at the top 10 schools to start in the A-grade division in 2009:

PEGS
Caulfield
Xavier
Scotch
Assumption
Marcellin
Melbourne
Brighton
Geelong College
Haileybury

And for the minnows

B-grade

St Kevins
Wesley
Geelong Grammar
Peninsula
Trinity
Yarra Valley
Carey
Ivanhoe
Mentone
Camberwell

The idea is that the top 2 schools in the B-grade are promoted to replace the bottom 2 schools in A-grade under an annual relegation system (similar to EPL)

I reckon it would be bloody fantastic.
Obviously there is speculation over how they would initially rate the schools, but perhaps the previous 2-3 years of performances would be used.

Sounds interesting Couch potato.

I reckon you'd need a regrading system after the first few rounds. As you know, some schools have amazingly good and amazingly bad years, and the draw should build in some flexibility so that teams in B grade don't spend a whole season smashing sides, and teams in A grade don't spend a whole year getting smashed.

Where does Parade fit in to this? Are they an AGSV school?

i think peninsula should be in the A grade, it will be interesting to see what happens. teams like asumption i think will struggle next year, pegs and marcillin will still be a formittable force along with caufeild and xavier is we do merge. i think it would be good for the school because of the huuge difference in competition....

For all boys interested in knowing the 2008 AGS season it looks like both Marcellin and Pegs will be dented significally due to a number of players being possible draftees:

Pegs:
Cotchin (Richmond) Early firsy pick
Maric (StKilda, Melbourne) Late second round pick

Possible draftees for 2009:
Joyce interests from (Kangaroos)

Marcellin:
Zaharakis (StKilda, Port Adelaida) Late second round/Early thrid round
Stanton (Melbourne, Fremantle) Late fourth round/fifth round

Possible draftees for 2009:
Shuey interests from Sydney
Beayni slight interests from Adelaide, Kangaroos
Tantsis-Hall interests from Geelong

If thats how they will be dented then i wont post anything else ever again...... Team like marcillin and pegs have depth they don't just rely on two outstanding players...sure they are a big influence but they are still going to be top of the table teams.

cheers for the replys lads, another interesting 1, who do we think will be captain of the nine teams?? if u dont know names just give numbers or positions i guess

my tip for mentones capt is t mcmahon. tall player ruck/fwd. pictures of tom can be found in google images under nick reiwoldt. he is also a popular ones with the ladys so watch for his quick pace and grunt in and under.

yarra will also be an improver next year, with 5 u16 vic metro members, including blease who made AIS..all year 10 boys who will only get better in the next couple of years

from what i understand the 2008 vic metro side is yet to be made infact training hasnt strated yet aswell as players even training.
are u talking 2007 here?

D.Zaharakis from marcellin is a good player, and so is stanton.

but luke shuey is in a class of his own. went down to a few games last year to watch marcellin play, and also played on him for a while during our game. just absolutely dominates, the best player at Marcelline by an absolute mile! and would even say the best in the AGS.

breaking news coming out of mentone. they have just recently appointed a new coach. the new coach goes by the name of warren fineberg. warren comes to the school with much experiance after being the runner for the ajax football club for the last 3 years.

marcellin will play whitefriars in a praccy match early next term, and from year 10, Marcus Callahan and Aaron Tribuzio could play, as both have been training regulary.

Josh Caddy won't play due to a broken wrist, should be back a couple of weeks after though.

Aaron Tribizio is an absalute freak! could go places. Speedy player, hard at it, great disposal on both feet. Should be very promising. Josh Caddy on the other hand is very over rated. Needs to work harder, lacking fitness and discipline.

p.s wouldnt want to toot your own horn.. hey aaron?
