I will try and get to some Knights games next year. Can anyone tell me what their reputation is like in the league?

Alright, now to work out which games to go to.

Planning to head to at least one game for every team as I'm thinking of making an ice hockey magazine for my year 12 media product :p

Recent press release from mustangs organization stating they have secured a new head coach. Brad vigon who was an assistant with the Melbourne ice over the past three seasons. A new assistant coach also. Hoping the stangs have a much better year in 2013. No word on the Melbourne ice coaching positions yet. Just need to see what imports show up for both Melbourne teams. Hoping for another great AIHL season.

I'd assume that the Ice would push to retain the services of Armstrong, Baclig, Korthuis and Wilson Jr at the very least. Baclig and Armstrong both have connections that would most likely keep them in Australia regardless, but I'm not so sure with Korthuis and Wilson Jr.

Ice yet to name a head coach for 2013. Training starts this week from what I can tell, will be interesting to follow how the Club responds to some key departures in the leadership and the three-peat, with all its build up.

I reckon we'll be right up there leading the way again, there is always a real buzz amongst it all at the Icehouse and no doubt they'll pack it out again.

The proposed facility on the Gold Coast would be a great boost for the game if it could get up and about.

Keen to head to a few games but don't know who to support. Mustangs or Ice? Not a big abndwagon guy so leaning towards MUstangs.

Go for the Stangs mate, you'll squeeze in easier. They need the support! And, jokes aside they look set to really take some steps fwd this season. Matured a bit as a club.

Sandy Gardner named as Ice coach for 2013.

Where do the Melbourne teams play?

I have watched live, Brisbane Bluetongues, Newcastle North Stars and the Dogs.

Medibank Icehouse at the Docklands. Fantastic home for hockey, even if its getting a bit too cosy for the growing interest.

Really hope Bluetongues can tee up a new venue. The improved infrastructure will really help the game along.

Check out both to make your up your mind. The problem you will have if you choose to support Ice is that memberships will probably be sold out before the season I would think. This will not be an issue with the Mustangs. As for quality of hockey Melbourne Ice rarely fails to give full value and with usually packed stands there is always a "big" atmosphere.
Each season brings new elements but with the Mustangs losing so many local players that have been stalwarts in the past two seasons it is hard to see how rookies will step up in this league. The word is that their imports will be a cut above their last lot but overall they look very inexperienced and quite small from their first on ice sessions. They will be very fit and quick.
Being new to it all enjoy what you find and get to Ice games nice and early.

Whats the story with Mustangs losing players? Haven't heard much on that front.
Every team loses players each year. They retire, have kids, get new jobs, move, get bored etc. The Mustangs didn't keep their coach from last year and he was well liked by some of the players not fronting this year but there would be a pile of reasons I would think. Hopefully the new players coming in do well.

Cant wait for this season to begin. Hearing good things about mustangs. Sadly tho they have lost some experienced players but seriously those players didnt bury the puck much last season. Players not returning. Bourke. Anderson. Hardy. Bergamin.robertson and carpenter to name a few. New coach and a breath of fresh air could be just what they need. Then there is the import dilema. Last years werent that special except for levitt. They need good ones this year. Heres hoping they have a much better yesr this year

There is a lot of enthusiasm within the Mustangs with new coaches etc. Some of their "new" local players are not all that young and in past years were not considered good enough to make the team. They will be playing an import goalie which limits their import skaters to 3. With 2 import D men the pressure on a single forward to score heavily will be huge. I expect that they will be quick and they are certainly fit. I think they will be a better outfit than last season but it is hard to see them consistently worrying the stronger teams. Canberra last year had a great goalie and a couple of handy imports but struggled to win regularly.

Mustangs team announced for 2013. One import D has good experience. Import Goalie looks solid. Other 2 new imports haven't played this season so it's hard to make any assessment. The squad is quite small physically apart from Brendan Oakes but he is quite young and will play a minor role as in previous seasons. Size is only one aspect of the game but when you compare the 2 Melbourne teams Ice are experienced and BIG and have a history of success. Hard to see how things will change.

One of those imports that didnt play this season is here. I was at the game last nite. Pat okane. He is small but solid. Has great wheels. Soft hands. Great passer and quick. He can play. He was on a line with sean jones and andy belic. They have some chemistry. The newlocal guys voller and cutter have never tried out for the ice or mustangs before. Voller is a top local pickup. He is good. I liked what i seen last nite. There is speed. And its accross all three lines. Could be some surprises this year. I will look on with interest

I am sure that O'Kane will pick up some points during the season but as a sole import forward he will find it hard to penetrate the better teams D zones. Training scrimmages don't tell a lot really as players are not too keen on laying big checks on team mates. They will be relying on their import goalie to frustrate teams but over a heavy season they will need scoring power to win games and I don't think they have too much of it on their roster.
We'll see it unfold in a few more weeks.

The practice game tomorrow night between the Melbourne teams Ice & Mustangs will give some indication of how the season may unfold.
With Ice missing 3 imports plus 3 aussie players away at World Championships it won't be anywhere near full strength. Mustangs are still waiting for their import goalie and 1 D man so they are a bit closer to full strength. A lot of people will no doubt turn up as they did last year.
Canberra has also picked up a high quality Finnish D man who has huge experience. Getting close now.

Well. Here we are. One more sleep till season begins. So excited and i will be attending the local derby sat nite. I believe it will be a close contest and the hockey wont dissapoint. Very keen to see the stangs up against the bigger melbourne ice. Wishing both teams do well this year.

With 3 key locals missing for the champions the Mustangs have a chance of unsettling Melbourne Ice but I wouldn't be betting too much on that. The Mustangs always play their best hockey against the Ice so in a two horse race ??
