We have a few to his defence. I think they're missing a few key points based on this article's description of the podcast.

there will be those who have protected him for ages. the usual suspects are still doing it.

szeps worked for jones for yonks. as a piece in the age by jordan baker said “ Being close to Jones was, as one former staffer put it, “an exhausting thing”. It was like being smiled upon by a capricious emperor.”

the piece went on to say:

“Last year, Jones faced his own reckoning. The Herald’s chief investigative reporter Kate McClymont revealed allegations that he had used his power for sexual gratification, by groping and indecently assaulting young men, including one of his producers, without their consent. One of the men, who has since died, alleged that he “forces himself on young men and uses his power in a predatory way”. Another man, an employee, says he was groped by Jones. “He knew I wasn’t gay so it was about power dynamics,” he said. Police investigated. This week, Jones was charged with 26 offences involving nine alleged victims. He says he is innocent. The charges are before the courts.

When one family contacted police a few years ago to raise allegations that Jones had indecently touched a relative, the officers were blunt. It would be the word of a social colossus against that of an ordinary person. Jones was not, the family recalled one of them saying, “Joe Blow from Bunnings”.

added to which jones has denied making such advances full stop as i recall his defence. if that’s so, szeps isn’t much help. had a chuckle at him being a “prominent broadcaster”

Of course, police officers will have their own personal views on the likely success of any criminal investigation. Some might say that those views are simply reflecting the reality of the power imbalance and biases at play in our criminal justice system. But that would ignore the fact that police are a critical component of the criminal justice system and not neutral observers - their own biases and perceptions play an active role in determining if and how rigorously allegations of criminal activity are pursued.

While we don't know the full context of that conversation, openly expressing such views about the inherent bias in the investigative process to the family of an alleged victim of sexual assault is something that society should find shocking but won't.

Yet again we are left wondering about how fully allegations of sexual assault are investigated by police, especially if it involved persons with political power and leverage.

One out in a case of historical abuse you have not much hope - that is reality. In today’s day and age the biases of the past do not exist. Multiple victims sometimes mean you only end up with actually making it to court. From personal experience the vetting by Police is extremely thorough for a number of reasons but ultimately they want ensure the health and safety of the complainant. Look at Brittany Higgins or Bernie from Revelations Episode 3.

Committal and Trial in Victoria (my only experience) are brutal processes for victims. Police and the OPP won’t risk people not equipped for it.

For what it’s worth, the article is a sad and pathetic defence of a grubby little man.

Speaking of Brittany Higgins, if only Alan Jones dared to take a major media network to court for defamation as Liberal Senator Reynolds former staffer Bruce Lehrmann did, after the criminal trial for his alleged rape of Ms Higgins was aborted due to juror misconduct.

Then we might see that network defend the claims against it in a civil trial using its substantial financial and legal resources to uncover damning evidence and prove its claims via the truth defence in a way that a state prosecutor could never do in a criminal trial.

But the rich and powerful only know how to punch downwards, very rarely risking their reputations and wealth by daring to take on those with the time and financial capacity to defend themselves in a civil court.

i think we know the answer to that question. and not only in respect of sexual assault. there is a two-tiered system of law.

Charges of aggravated indecent assault, including squeezing buttocks, penis fondling and scrotum pulling; all in a day's work for AJ.

Massive abuse of being in a position of power.

When I first moved to England my boss was a dirty old man and if you were unlucky enough to have to work a shift with him he was all hands but I knew if I said something I'd lose my job and home. That said he and his partner became my gay dads over there, if I looked a bit down in the dumps Pete would give me fifty quid, tell me to piss off out and to come home if I'm not in bed by closing time.

'Not the Alan Jones I know'...says John Howard who spent most of his career as PM searching for WMDs that never existed and now has trouble remembering anything.

'He never tried to fiddle me'....says Peta Credlin about the openly gay Alan Jones, without a hint of irony.

His conservative supporters (including David Flint) are tricking into court but no sign of the accused Paedo

Jail or death. Either way the society will be better off with his removal from it.
It's really sad that this seems to have been an open secret for a long time, and fear of retribution stopped anyone speaking up.

Really quite horrible, and all his enablers need to be held to account as accessories. If not by the legal system, then by the court of public opinion.

If it leads to changes, there's some positive to be gained from the whole sorry saga.

Sadly, our increasingly individualistic society doesn't take to kindly to reigning in out-of-control egos, even when they're clearly causing much misery and damage.

We need a poll, will he or won't he get time in the big house?
Pointless IMHO.

As I stated in another thread. The legal process is remarkably swift when it comes to privately funded civil cases such as defamation.

But the criminal process, especially for the most heinous charges and for those with or access to political and judicial power, moves at a very slow pace. It is often years and sometimes never that those accused face a court. And even if a guily verdict is found in the criminal trial, the the appeals process can add yet even more years to the justice process.

And a reminder, Alan Jones is a man with powerful friends, considerable wealth and 83 years old, and his legal team saying he suffers from ill health that is rapidly deteriorating.

With eight fresh charges brought against him, bringing the total to thirty four, the floodgates are clearly opening.

Why now?

I can only conclude it’s because the only thing ever protecting Alan Jones was the immense power of his radio show.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if for once the Tony Abbotts and the John Howards (and, it must be said, plenty of politicians from the other side; it’s just that I loathe those two men in particular) don’t rush to provide character references.

I think there’s the distinct possibility it was always going to end like this. Jones was only ever buying time.

I may be wrong, but I don’t think Jones was ever one to keep incriminating documents, J. Edgar-like, to magically appear whenever he needed a favour.

With Jones it appears to have always been about his white-hot anger in the moment. No-one wanted to suffer his endless tirades. He was, to all reports, astonishingly relentless, giving every indication he would hound the hapless subject of his ire till the cows come home. And eventually most people caved in just to buy some peace.

But here’s the thing. Once you gave him what he wanted, things were fine. Some say he was capable of enormous generosity and even, surprise, empathy when you were onside with Jones. (Until he next wanted something.)

That sort of mercurial temper doesn’t quietly plan the settling of scores long into future. It was only ever about the daily awesome power of his bully pulpit. And that has completely gone now.

Complete, utter scumbag.
I won't post what I would really like to see as punishment, as I don't fancy a permanent ban.
Suffice to say it includes and extends Gough 's 2 options in post #264...

Take a quick read of the wording of this paragraph from the Sydney Morning Herald report describing Jones entry into the Sydney Court Room to hear the 34 sexual assault charges against him.

"Earlier, chaotic scenes greeted the arrival of the former king of breakfast radio, who was wearing claret-coloured trousers, a yellow and blue patterned tie with a navy blazer. Balancing on a cane, Jones, 83, extended a helping hand to his lawyer Chris Murphy, who’d fallen into the gutter as they alighted from a white BMW."

Reckon the words are chosen deliberately and with anger. It sets the scene for a very disturbing and graphic account of the details of the latest sexual assault charges levied against the former darling of conservative radio. Those descriptions are summarised below and hidden given their explicit nature.

Alan Jones allegedly masturbated as he “grabbed and squeezed” the penis of his 10th alleged victim, according to fresh charges laid against the former radio broadcaster.

Court documents relating to the 10th victim allege Jones “touched the complainant’s penis with his penis whilst squeezing the complainant’s bottom and kissing the complainant on the mouth”. The 34th charge against Jones alleges he “grabbed and squeezed [the complainant’s] penis whilst masturbating his own penis”.

Jones is also accused of having kissed the man on the mouth, “gripped and squeezed [the complainant’s] penis multiple times” and rubbed it with his hand. The acts allegedly occurred in 2003 and 2004.
