Toovey's an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and considering Collingwood are already running a tight ship and also working to re-sign Dale Thomas, I'd imagine he'll be on a lot of clubs' radars.

Will he stay or will he go?

Strikes me as an impeccable club man, couldn't see him in any other colours.
Heard this a million times before, but ultimately, it means nothing.

All it takes is for another club to double his salary, the question is whether any clubs will make a serious attempt.

We'll fit him in though, too important to lose.
I wonder about that. Looking over the contract drama your mob's had over the last couple of years, it's pretty obvious you're barely squeezing your current crop of players in. Add to that, Dale Thomas will be demanding big money, so providing you re-sign him, you probably won't be able to offer Toovey anywhere near as much as a GWS (or perhaps the Bulldogs even!).

All the top teams are barely squeezing their current crop of players in.

Didak finishes a big contract (signed in 2010) and Jolly finishes his initial contract that lured him to Collingwood so there is a fair chunk freed up.

We aren't stupid, we've managed our cap very well without losing a player and I can't see that changing unless Daisy and Toovey have outrageous demands which I doubt.

Fair enough regarding big contracts expiring, but both GWS & The Bulldogs have plenty of space and a lot of players on front-loaded contracts. There's no doubt in my mind both clubs will be in the hunt for free agents and Toovey sticks out like a sore thumb amongst all the old codgers, hacks & guys who simply won't go anywhere.

To boot, he's a very good player, and unrestricted. Interest will certainly be high & I think the Pies will struggle to keep both him and Thomas.

We've managed to tie up Swan, Pendles, Cloke, Reid and Beams in the last couple of years, this year should be easy.

No club is going to offer either of them outrageous contracts because they know that when they get near the top and the squeeze happens it can be catastrophic.

Who would want him? Average role player at best
Good depth at average cost for a top six club. Good stop-gap with premiership experience for a rebuilding club. A middle of the road player for everyone else. He's serviceable and if Collingwood didn't offer him a new contract, I'd like Freo to offer a bit (average AFL wage at most, though).

Pies will offer him a contract as he plays a specific role for them, what club in their right mind would throw a heap of cash at him though? I suppose the Dees could add him to their band of journeymen

He won't want to leave in any event as he won't necessarily be best 22 at another club - Jack Anthony a prime example of this

Would need to be a big raise to get him to leave, very tight with a few of the boys and has a long time partner here so i think a move out of victoria wouldn't happen.

Rookies also tend to be more loyal to their clubs.

Not worried in the slightest. Him leaving would hurt though as we don't have much depth in that area

his manager shopped him around 2 years ago, from memory there were not too many bites at the money being asked

very important player for pies, a bit of a mister fix it, still remember his 3 goals on debut!

darling would love him as a team mate

Different story now as clubs are leaving money free for FA - And a club like StKilda will have lots of cap space.

He's a very good player, but he's no better than he was when he shopped himself around last year and no one wanted him, Clubs don't like paying overs for medium defenders.
