Every mid spends time fwd...but kicking 20+ is the minimum standard from AA history they use to jam a midfielder onto a HFF. Even then, needs to be a dearth of HFF candidates that produced a worthy season.

At no stage during the season was Martin ever in the running for a HFF slot. Most knew that.

Was just the usual case of people (including the odd media nuffie) parroting what others type.
but you agreed every match he spent time forward?

How many goals did he kick? What about inside 50 marks?
Shouldn't make the side as a forward when other forwards played much better up there
meh who cares, if roo can't make that team on the wing then its always going to be a joke

No. Where did I say Martin spent time forward every match ?
Don't verbal people.

Basically if at any point during the season someone thought Martin would win AA selection as a HFF, they were wrong.
He didn't kick goals...a very basic requirement to be selected as a fwd. Very roughly, you can assume around a goal a game as a minimum. If a mid kicks 20-25 for the season he might do it. Never looked likely as a HFFer.

hahaha how precious are you

I didn't think gunston was anywhere near it to be honest. He's done well given the lack of roughead - but nowhere near aa
He was well in the mix by early-mid season. Would not have been a surprise selection by mid season.
Just didn't produce the consistent form or much eye-catching stuff over the back half of the season. Still a damn good season though.

Doesn't really answer my question.

If you're picking three tall forwards, Jack Gunston better be kicking 70 goals a season.

Or does he get picked with fewer goals because he's "classy"?

Is he? I hear he likes to take peoples mothers out to dinner, but doesn't call them the next day.

Interesting the dogs didn't list Boyd in their top 3 players in 2016. Having Hunter in front of him shows how lucky he was to make AA team.

Boyd was competing with about half a dozen BP/HB contenders. Hunter about 20 or 30 midfield contenders.

If Hunter makes the team as the 9th best midfielder and Boyd doesn't as the 4th best small/mid sized defender does that change anything?

McGovern made the AA side but our players could easily nominate Kennedy, Shuey and Gaff...

So, you disagree that Mitchell has been the most consistent player over a long period of time?

More so than Brent Harvey or Corey Enright or anyone else who's been playing at a high standard for 10-15 (or more) years?

I dispute that he's arguably the best midfielder of his generation.
