It’s youtube, I’m sure that number will grow.

It’s still a tiny number for a Bryan Danielson match— it should have been part of an episode of Dynamite & Rampage, rather than TK paying too much attention to the opposition.

Wouldn’t of probably done it if the opposition didn’t first program during Rampage.
Maybe Vince should only worry about his own rubbish.

Just because the WWE does something, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

Counter programming Smackdown with 90k live viewers just shows that Danielson isn’t a “draw” on his own, diminishes his brand name and the AEW value in the open market.

I want AEW to succeed, but they should focus on their own sh*t rather than fall into the “wrestling war” tropes that do more damage than good to the industry as we’ve seen both with WCW and TNA.

we shall see. As we have been told it ain’t a sprint.

think the booking is mostly fine. Loved we got this match.
Maybe you should concentrate on WWE as they seem to be the ones with the problem counter booking.

What is it with the gate keeping in the above comment?

Am I not allowed to enjoy BOTH wrestling organisations & be critical of a poor booking decision.

The fact is the biggest name in wrestling in the past decade, who headlined Wrestlemania twice— as recently as 6 months ago just had a match that’s been called by one poster on here as the “match of the year” & a literal dream match be watched by only 90k people live.

Bryan Danielson is the biggest name in the wresting industry, he should be the main event in matches that are built up and paid off with storylines, not wrestling on YouTube at 9pm on a Friday night to 90k people because TK decided to announce the match on Twitter.

How is it gatekeeping to point out that the WWE are involved in what you are complaining about? He never said you're not allowed to enjoy both companies.

Telling me to concentrate on another wrestling promotion in a thread about AEW because I’m capable of watching both is gate keeping.

It’s basically “unless you like everything AEW does, don’t join the discussion”.

Isn’t the point of a discussion thread is to discuss the product, not just have a circle jerk about how “awesome” a match was that almost nobody saw?

Concentrate does not mean concentrate solely. I read it more as "why are you only criticizing AEW for this".

And you keep pushing this "almost nobody saw" thing - yet ignored where I said it now has 400k views. Is that not significant in 9 or so hours?

I’m discussing AEW because it’s an AEW thread— is it that difficult to understand?

90k viewers watched that match live— that’s disappointing in my opinion. YouTube viewers on delay don’t demand high advertising dollars, especially when the timezones that have likely pushed the viewers aren’t AEW’s core market (as the US has mostly been asleep since it aired)

It’s a poor booking decision— no idea why people are trying to defend it.

Ok - have you criticized WWE's involvement elsewhere?

And again, you seem to be misunderstanding the rationale behind having that match free on YouTube - it's not about short term money, it was a move to get eyes onto the product. Whether it works is TBD.

I’ve posted in ONE thread on the entirety of BigFooty in the past month—- why the f*** are you holding me to this standard that I have to equally critique both wrestling companies.

I’m in an AEW thread, I think they made a poor move & I make a comment on it. Doesn’t need any deeper analysis than that.

If the purpose of the match was just to get more eyes on the product, then Danielson Vs Suzuki could’ve been added to AEW’s existing YouTube content (Dark or Elevation)—- by making a separate “Buy In” that aired at the same time as Smackdown, it was a pathetic attempt to try to “compete” and as shown by the 90k live viewers, failed pretty badly. Viewers after the fact don’t impact Smackdown’s viewing numbers (which seems to be the reason to why it aired when it did).

I’ll say it again—- Tony Khan should focus on AEW, not on his competition.

I'm not hating Punk's run but he could be doing so much more at the moment. It almost feels like he's being wasted having matches against jobbers and lesser guys on a show nearly nobody watches.

Hopefully they handle his run a little better soon.

If you have nothing to say on the WWE side of it then that's fine but you need to be prepared for how people will interpret that.
I don't stalk you either, so not sure how you expected me to know you had only posted in this thread.

Putting it on Dark or Elevation is a good point. It seems it was a late decision and made probably to cut into SmackDown time in response to SmackDown extending half an hour to cut into Rampage, but the idea would still be that it will (ideally) draw viewers even after the fact.
And again, 90k live on a YouTube stream isn't that bad, plus the people on FITE.

Will you hold everyone in this thread to the same standard?

If they critique one company for an action, that they critique every company that does a similar action equally?

Or is that a unique requirement to me?

Making a late reactionary decision based on what the other company is doing is unnecessary. Danielson Vs Suzuki could have been added to next weeks Rampage or Dynamite and popped a rating for one of the TV shows-- it's a literal dream match for fans of Japanese wrestling. But the focus on trying to "compete" with the opposition is lame. It was lame in the 90's when WWF & WCW did it, it was lame in the late 00's/early 10's when TNA tried to do it-- just because it's done by AEW doesn't make it any better.

It was a question I was interested in the answer to. I'm not demanding you answer it.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I'm certainly not going to complain if they decide to occasionally put matches like this on free to everyone on YouTube.
It's like the people complaining that Danielson vs Omega happened on Dynamite.

No gate keeping at all. Have said numerous times that while I may not enjoy the WWE anymore that many do and to enjoy.
Tony said the same thing “enjoy your wrestling”, it’s why he put Rampage on after Smackdown, probably should of put it on before but that’s a different argument for a different time.
But if you want to bitch and moan about counter programming, youre in the wrong companies thread.
As for Danielsons match being on YouTube? Awesome. Means I can rewatch at anytime as AEW don’t have a streaming service to show their library, yet.
Never thought I would hear a “wrestling fan” complain that a brilliant match is not only free to watch on YouTube but they get to watch it as many times as they want whenever they want. Crazy stuff.

Bullshit

No gate keeping at all.

Then what's this little gem underneath mate?

But if you want to b*tch and moan about counter programming, youre in the wrong companies thread.

The Danielson Vs Suzuki match was counter programming -- and a F*** poor attempt at that if only 90k watched on YouTube because TK made a reactionary decision and didn't hype the match sufficiently before it happened.

As for Danielsons match being on YouTube? Awesome. Means I can rewatch at anytime as AEW don’t have a streaming service to show their library, yet.

Then how do you watch AEW mate?

Not through that streaming service called Fite.tv where you can go back and watch ANY episode of Dynamite, Rampage, Dark or Elevation since the very beginning? Or any PPV that you've already paid for?

Being on an Australian based forum, I'm not sure why you're pretending that something doesn't exist when it clearly does.

The Richmond supporters in this thread are bozo dimwits. Disco Inferno / Mister Moron only rocks up when he wants to hammer in ‘bad’ news…..oh noes the YouTube number r bad…world is falling down

On the flip side… The Port Adelaide supporters are good blokes. Keep it up lads.

Another example of gate keeping.

The moment the discussion is anything but a circle jerk about how excellent the match was, without acknowledging that it was only seen by a small percentage of the AEW audience old mate alt account here comes in with personal insults (again!)

This isn't a banter thread, it's a discussion thread. Let's focus on discussing AEW, rather than you getting all melty because I've got an opinion of AEW that is not what you agree with.

I guess I would say it seems weird to accuse AEW of "falling into wrestling war tropes" when it was WWE doing the tropes...? AEW's response to Smackdown loading up their show, counter programming AEW and then getting ad-free time in a bid to not put forward a rating that could be negativity compared to AEW was to.....not actually change a single thing about their show, bar also getting some ad free time. Instead they put on a free show a hour before to maybe dent Smackdown, that came with a dream match that literally wouldn't have occurred in AEW otherwise, so nothing lost there. If anything they didn't respond to the "war" challenge enough, their actual show just did their own thing

The whole thing is very silly.....and baseball is going to slaughter them all anyway.
