I have an idea for future State of Origin weekends that will resolve the problem of who plays who and reward better players of the season. Instead of State V State, I propose we steal the idea from NBA where East plays West e.g. WA, SA and NT V NSW, ACT, QLD, TAS, VIC. I think the teams would be even and the whole concept would generate a lot more hype and excitement. It would be a one off each season in the middle of the year. States such as NSW and QLD (who we are trying to appeal to) would also be more interested in it too.

So you would still have players playing for the side of the country which they were born on rather than play on meaning origin still plays a part. Any idea how the side may line up? Please post thoughts and teams to see how good it would be.

I dont think it would work. I for instance would find it hard to barrak for a team called "Easts" especially when 95% of the players will probably be Victorian. I am a HUGE fan of State of Origin and if the AFL had any brains they would organise a NSW v QLD State of Orign match during the season as it would be a brilliant way to promote our sport in Rugby League heartland.

join date oct. 2007, this idea has been proposed so many times prior to your post. it wont happen the afl dont want it. but i do agree with this idea.
