One thing that you can say about the israeli gov't. It's reasonably honest with its overall policy direction.....reasonably. It isnt too trustworthy on the details.

Anyway, it has stated clearly stated that there will be no "two-state solution". It has been clear on it. The israeli apologists and the various ass-licking governments around the world that pretend that it is a possible solution can now read the facts of the matter. Albo albo can now shut his mouth about a two-state solution. Mate, the israelis are never going to let that happen. Get that through your thick head.....

It does not mean a rat's arse whether every country in the world recognises the state of palestine, because israel is never ever going to allow that state to eventuate. And from the previous gutless attempts by the US and other govts in the last 9 months, they have buckley's chance of adjusting israel's attitude.

Did you read the article?

Right wing put up the resolution during a time of war. Pretty clear political stunt. Centre left, who have previously expressed support for a two state solution, abstained from voting.

yeh i've read about that theory. Have you read about it? I see the trend and the trend among the jewish population of israel is no deal but if you want something to hold onto......

This poll was done before the current war....although i accept that it was done in an environment where israel was imprisioning 2 million people in gaza and slowly taking over land in the west bank....both of which has been occurring for decades under both right and so-called left govts in israel

Read some more if you like....

This hardening of Israeli opinion regarding a two-state solution is in lockstep with clear signs that the Oct. 7 attacks will tilt the country further right, dominated in its vanguard by the ideas of West Bank settlers who want Israel to have the footprint of all the biblical lands of the Jews. This is in keeping with a historical pattern, Scheindlin said — whenever Israel is dealt a major violent shock, right-wing parties and politicians benefit.

Adidas is just another entity that gets in the prone position. I dont even understand why the hell it was using the 1972 olympics to sell shoes in the first place. To suck up? So they now suck up and backtrack on an ad campaign which was designed to suck up and then they used a palestinian model as part of it? And then they sack her? Are these germans crazy?

Good to see more misinformation from Al Jazeera...

The campaign was for the retro SL72 shoe, inspired by a design from the 1972 event, where the Palestinian Black September group took Israeli athletes hostage.
Eleven Israelis, a German policeman and five Palestinian attackers died after a standoff at the Olympic village and the nearby Fuerstenfeldbruck airfield as rescue efforts erupted into a gunfight.

Nicely omitting the athletes who were murdered fighting armed terrorists with their bare hands.

Nicely omitting the athletes and officials who were executed due to West German incompetence.

Incidents like this reinforce the need for Israeli's to protect Israeli's.

why does a shoe company even reference it? And to use a palestinian model? What in the world was adidas's goal? Was it trying to prod Israel? I strongly doubt it. The German attitude to Israel is characterised by the prone position... Did it somehow think that Israel would respond favourably? I cant even comprehend how adidas's PR people could entertain this kind of thinking. Of course, Israelis responded by condemning the commercial. It's their right to do this and it's to be expected....which is my point.

and i've certainly never questioned the desire for israelis to kill gentiles (and sometimes other israelis) to protect israelis. The last nine months has made that very clear. I think the world knows this clearly. The israelis have made this known on a continuous basis since i can remember.

The International Court of Justice has ruled that the Israeli occupation of the West Bank is illegal. ho-hum....

I expected a barrage of accusations relating to anti-semitism....but netinyahoo gave this

"The Jewish people are not occupiers in their own land, including in our eternal capital Jerusalem nor in Judea and Samaria, our historical homeland," he said.

well there ya go. Further confirmation that there will never be a two-state solution. Not that the Israelis havent said that from the start. THe problem has been the christian zionists like biden and the various world leaders in the prone position pointing their best side towards jerusalem... They have chosen to misrepresent the israeli position and suggest that the state of palestine is possible post war.

It was an interesting decision which deserves a bit more attention than it has received in standard media. Neither the decision not its invisibility are really that surprising, though.

The ICJ did make it clear that the occupation is illegal, and it also made comment on the right of Palestinians to resist such illegal occupation.

I tend to think the israeli argument is more effective considering their weapons. If the last 9 months has proven anything, it's the puzzling "importance" placed on the UN and its satellite bodies over the last 70 years. I think it's rather ironic that if the current attitude to the UN was wound back to time of its inception, the gifting of israel by the UN to european jews would have been laughed at. I think the attention of the media to the ICJ decisions is in direct proportion to its current relevance. I think the Palestinians need to look elsewhere....

The UN says that it takes 10,000 tons of supplies A DAY to feed and provide water and clothe and provide fuel for a population of 2 million people.

The US delivered 9,000 tons over 2 months using their floating pier...

You could see that it was going to be a joke when they announced it. Job well done boys. And that's not counting the injection of money into the private sector that so many US wars provide. A$500million.....geez.

The UN decision is important in that it underlines officially what the Palestinians have been claiming for decades, and which Israel has been denying.
The MSM does not wish to publicise it because the decision runs against all the social interests for which it is a mouthpiece.
The US is backing Israel's genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the West Bank, as are its NATO allies. Australia of course is a servile side kick of US imperialism, and therefore backs Israel as well. Hence, no msm outlet wants to highlight the UN decision.
The UN is absolutely toothless: it can make correct judgements, but has absolutely no way of enforcing them.
It exists solely to give a "soft veneer", a glimmer of hope, to all those who feel outrage and disgust at the ongoing genocide in Gaza - the hope that somehow, in some way, the US and its allies will listen to the UN and follow its rulings.
The same thing happened in 2003 during the anti Iraq war demonstrations. Many political tendencies, claiming to be "left wing/socialist" put forward the bogus perspective that the war could be stopped by supporting the UN, and demanding that the US obey the UN. Look how that ended.

It's just a body you complain to about other countries - countries ignore any UN censure towards themselves. Australia has copped a heap of UN censures due to treatment of Aboriginals and asylum seekers (we've been more censured by the UN than Russia), but ignored them all, yet we love speaking up about other countries human rights in the UN ...

yes obviously....i've even seen israel recently make complaints and not blush....the UN is like a big media outlet and countries phone in their stories about other countries.

I think its just a body that provides work for political appointees, who can take free lunches in NYC and hang out in the hotels there. You wonder about the judges on the various UN courts....they've obviously given up the opportunity to do something worthwhile in their own countries to go to the Hague and hang out in the van gogh museums on weekends.

Hasbara awards night is due again. For those who don't know about hasbara, an excerpt from Wiki

Hasbara was formally introduced to the Zionist vocabulary by Nahum Sokolow.[1] Hasbara (Hebrew: הַסְבָּרָה) has no direct English translation, but roughly means "explaining". It is a communicative strategy that "seeks to explain actions, whether or not they are justified".[2] As it focuses on providing explanations about one's actions, hasbara has been called a "reactive and event-driven approach".[3][4]In 2003, Ron Schleifer called hasbara "a positive sounding synonym for 'propaganda'".[5]

Submissions for the best hasbara are currently being accepted and a gala night is promised.

Bernie provides a background to netinyahoo's forthcoming outline of his gameplan to congress....evidently old men can be right and make sense...

The arrogance of Netinyahoo....

I acknowledge that he's paid for the politicans who sit in the US congress but he hasnt paid the demonstators and students on US campuses. He has no right to criticise these foreign nationals if they have chosen not to take the bribes.

The US does itself no good by allowing a war criminal to dictate to it.

This year's Hasbara award goes to Netinyahoo for the snow job inflicted on the US people with his address to Congress. Not that Hasbara is really needed. The politicians clapping him have already been paid for either by AIPAC or through evangelical PACs
