I know it's early, but I'm already planning for SC next year....

Here's the team I'll be looking at putting together for Round 1 2010 depending on Salary cap, byes, etc:

Backs:
Goddard, Drummond, Hodge, Waite, B. Jones, M. Egan, D. O'Keefe (Syd)
EMG: J Trengrove (Port), R. Sloane (Ade)

Mids: Ablett, Hayes, Selwood, M.McVeigh, Kerr, Armitage
EMG: Blease, Scully

Rucks: Cox, Hille
EMG: Bailey, Leuenberger

Forwards: ROK, N Riewoldt, Deludio, Medhurst, J Kennedy, Gumbleton, Watts
EMG: R. Tarrant (Nth), 1st Round draft pick

Keeping an eye on: Ottens, R Murphy, Lecras, Prismall, Reilly, Laycock, A Welsh, Neagle, Vespremi, Malceski, Swift, Yarran, Hurley and the top 15 draft picks...

Lots to think about...

Who do you want to squeeze into your initial team in 2010, and who are the emerging players to look out for?

How do they calculate prices with regards to long term injuries? How much will someone like Hille or waite drop in price considering they got injured in round 5 and 9 respectively?

This has been my first year in SC and knowing what I know now I will be filling all my lines up with midfielder types. ie blokes like Scarlett and C.Bolton that I have this year are being shown by the Broughton, Gilbert, Lokyer and co.

Murphy from Carlton will be in my side for sure. He has managed 100+ in all but one game this year ( i think from memory he got 98 in that one). Not sure about Ablett yet, big money for a good return but the extra cash could allow me to start out with higher scorers and reduce number of upgrades later on.

Rucks have been my weakest link this year. I had Hille early then replaced him with Blake:eek: and now Kosi.

Definately won't have Kerr or Medhurst next year, both have really burnt me this year:thumbsdown:

I included the likes of Kerr, Medhurst, M McVeigh as they should be irresistably cheap next year. All capable of big 100+ scores. It just takes 1 big score and you can use them as a keeper or cashcow for an easy upgrade.

I used this theory with Scott Lucas this year...didn't work in the beginning, but patience is the key and I can now upgrade Lucas to Harvey or Davis this week.

I have a finals campaign to consider and my highest overall ranking ever (ranked 232 at the moment but hoping to improve) so haven't thought much about my team for next year.

I do know though that I will be stacking the backline with premium half back/midfielder types and will go 3-4 premiums in the midfield plus go for the cheapest premium forwards in the forward line with maybe one expensive one such as Riewoldt for example.

The formula I find gets easier the more years you play and by your 2nd-3rd year you usually have a pretty good idea of what type of players to pick for your squad. :)

Interestingly enough I was thinking about this today, even made a little list.

Premiums to consider
Ablett
Bartel
Riewoldt
Cox
Newman
Goddard
ROK

Guns underpriced to consider
Enright
Gilbee
S. Fisher
Hodge - will exceed 500k. still a bargain, as his 1st 10 games is dragging him down
Pendlebury - underpriced due to the 0 and three ordinary games since
Gibbs - hasn't taken the next step this year, maybe next year
Cooney
Franklin
Deledio
Brent Harvey

Value picks to consider
Mark Mcveigh - 300k
Shaun Burgoyne - 400k
Cotchin
Palmer
Birchall - 400k
Ellis
Symes
Urquhart - low 300's
Myers - 250k
Malceski
Veszpremi
Medhurst - low 300's
Kerr

Kids for bench
Scully
Jack Trengrove (SA)
Morabito (WA) - looks ready made, big body
Watts (will be cheaper than he was this year if he keeps his average).
Jarryd Grant (3rd year KPP at bulldogs)
Scott Gumbleton (4th year)
Egan (if he plays)
Ben Reid (3rd year player, should be listed in defence next year)

Love your list there Dazman, great stuff. :thumbsu:

I am no way going near Gilbee or Fisher next year though after being burnt by them this season. Well I definitely will not be picking Gilbee that's for sure.

Out of your list I'd grab all your premiums but I will add Sandilands to it as I am going a premium ruck combo next season in Cox/Sandilands.

Hodge, Pendlebury, Cooney, Gibbs and Enright interest me on underpriced guns list but add Jarrad Waite to it who will be a bargain aswell.

Value picks I'd go with Ellis, Medhurst, Palmer, Cotchin, Birchall and Urquart.

You are spot on with the kids on the last list. Most people will pick the top draft picks and might risk it and pick Gumby. ROFL!

Gilbee and Fisher have great records for a sustained amount of time and thats worth a lot IMO.

Look at Joel Macdonald last year, absolutely tore it a new one. This year, average is down 20 points and I'm not even sure he's playing regularly in the 22.

I will pick Sam Fisher over a 1 year wonder (so far) such as Sam Gilbert.

And for your value picks Judd Magic - Mark McVeigh is a monty. Will be the most picked player next season if he keeps his average of 53.

Yeah you have a point mate with Gilbee and Fisher. Guess I have just been peeved off with them this year as they have melted like butter everytime they get a half decent tag on them thats all.

Don't mention Sam Gilberts name to me, I hate that guy and hold him responsible along with Dawson for wrecking Fishers game this year. LOL!

Mcveigh is getting on a bit, I don't know if I would go with him but what would I know, I have been wrong before. Ha! Ha! :p

Nice list Dazman, I've had a few names rattling around in my head but you seem to have got most of them.

I will pose a different question though - what do you guys reckon about positional changes? I'll do a short list of "popular" players who might change position for better or worse:

DEFENDERS:
Goddard - played almost purely midfield, will he be DEF/MID or just MID?
Hodge - likely to retain DEF/MID but will finish the year playing midfield
Lockyer - another player to potentially become a pure MID (again)

MIDFIELDERS:
J. Corey - played a bit in defense this year, I would say unlikely to be a DEF/MID but a guy can dream
Goodwin - has been the definition of utility this year, I'm hoping he slots into DEF/MID for next year
J. Kelly - a bit of a smokey, played defense all year which might enable him for DEF/MID and should play more midfield next year with Hunt back
C. Knights - played a lot of time forward, should be named MID/FWD

RUCK:
D. Petrie - might lose RUC and become something like DEF/FWD
P. Ryder - either pure RUC or RUC/DEF

FORWARDS:
P. Chapman - FWD only this year but should go back to MID/FWD slot
R. O'Keefe - like Chappy FWD this year but playing midfield, should also be MID/FWD
M. Pavlich - mostly played midfield so another candidate for MID/FWD
A. Didak - might be named as MID only but MID/FWD would suit
L. Davis - high chance to stay MID/FWD you would think
Deledio - hasn't played much time forward really, maybe back to just a MID?
B. Harvey - likely to stay MID/FWD

It's hard to pick who exactly will change, from the list above I don't see many losing a position, more just adding a 2nd position to be selected (mainly MID at that).

Any I missed? Discuss.

he's definitely in the 22, he's played every game. earlier in the year with Merrett and Patfull out he was given more responsibility in minding players or playing full back. since Merrett's been back he's started scoring 100s more regularly again...

I still think that they should bring in where if you have a dual position player that you should be able to drag him into the other position to fill a void .ie. Chad Cornes (Def/Mid)

Say I have the Chad in defense but am short in the midfield due to injury but I have a 8th and 9th defender to take Chads spot then I should be able to drag Chad down into my midfeild to fill in thus saving a trade until my original midfielder comes back.

You think they surely would have added this feature into the game by now.

Some other people you should think about next year ( * = definates):

Andrew Walker [DEF] *
Josh Hunt [DEF] *
Beau Waters [DEF] *

Sean Burgoyne (missed most of the year) [MID] *

Charman (ditto) [RUCK]

Sam Blease [FWD?] Melb
Wonaeamirri [FWD] *
Jarryd Allen [FWD] - first 22 for saints when fit *
Hentschel [FWD]
Sean Rusling [FWD] *

Any sydney youngster

It will be interesting to see if Charman can actually get a game next year. With Clark and Leuenberger developing i reckon he might struggle.

I also wont be touching Hentschell next season as i got burnt this year. He is too big of an injury risk. Walker should be a good scorer, but he may also just have too much of an injury risk attached to him.

Add me to the burnt list with Hentschell Mark. :p

Seemed like a good idea at the time for me to pick him as I wanted Higgins in the midfield.

What I should have done is put Higgins in the forward line instead of Hentschell and put Swallow in the midfield like I was originally going to do. Boy he has been good for the Roos this year.

Tambling might be worth a look next year, but only if he's available under FWD.

I'm predicting next year for there to be a swarm of teams with "Delicious" worked into the names somehow, so I'm going to go for a theme, like "Genius of Jurrah" and pick all exotic birds.

The problem with this is- it's a huge advantage to have those players.

Which means everyone will have those player.

Which isn't a good thing if you're after diverse team selections. :)

And to add something on topic- Chris Masten. Delicious at the moment, those if he keeps going, he's going to kill any value in him! :)

Another is Clinton Young from the Hawks - only played 6 games this year and will get a discount...

Dont get excited about some guys getting discounts because they only played a handfull of games because it doesnt work like that.

VS work in weird and mysterious ways so dont automatically pencil guys in for discounts.

They tend to discount risky selections such as Lucas/Higgins/Hentch/HMac/Hase/Rusling and the likes and it's a matter of choosing the lesser of the evils. This year maybe Higgins/Hoops/Hmac and Haze are the only success stories. Grimes too.

Next year i can see names like Rocca/Rusling/Gumby/Laycock/Egan/Meeson/JesseSmith/X.Clarke and Waters having discounts TBH only be a couple i would look at and as bench players if cheap enough.
