A different topic for a thread, but how good is the siren in Aussie rules? I just feel it's such a dramatic way to end each quarter, and as far as I know its unique in sports. I always felt an umpires/referees whistle to end a half/match seemed so anticlimactic. Just part of the unique spectacle of Australian rules football.

The bigger question, should there be a countdown timer?

No! The siren is the best!

Yes I know everyone who wants to know knows how much time is left anyway.

So.

Make quarters 18.5 minutes, with an additional RANDOMLY GENERATED amount of time between 1 and 3 minutes.

So no one knows except the timekeepers, and they only find out in the last few seconds maybe.

It's an idea that is both stupid and also ****ing awesome. Imagine the tension.
