What I don't understand about the supposed trade of Raines if in fact we do want him, is why not just pick him up with our last pick of the draft. From what you read, no-one else is chasing him, so why even bother with using pick 44 unless of course we don't plan on using a later pick.
We're wondering the same thing!!
Tuck and Raines would be good for you. Lovett, too. would only cost pick 12 You add the lighting, clearance and defensive capabilities you clearly seek.

After missing out on a late raid aimed at recruiting Melbourne star Aaron Davey, Fremantle has its sights on out-of-contract Essendon speedster Andrew Lovett.
The Dockers who, along with the Bombers, made a lucrative four-year offer for Davey worth more than $2m this week, were edged out when a lethargic Melbourne eventually returned fire and increased its initial term to four years.
Lovett could go either west to Fremantle or north to Brisbane via different paths.
His management has requested a three-year deal worth $1.2m.
While Brisbane's three-year offer is less than Lovett's required remuneration, at least the Lions would be prepared to deal with Essendon during trade week, which starts on Monday.
Fremantle may also negotiate with the Bombers, but its preferred option is to pay Lovett up to $500,000 a season for three years if he elects to remain out of contract until the pre-season draft in December at which the Dockers have the third selection. Under that scenario, Essendon would receive no compensation.
Unless of course Brisbane's had a quiet word in Freo's ear to express interest in Lovett so that you're forced to deal with Brisbane or lose him for nothing in the PSD. It is not like Brisbane has any homesick westerners on its list that would motivate Freo to do something like this.
Then again, I'm sure the lions were not as irritated as I was about the dodgy dealings with Mal.
I reckon we could realistically get him for a 3rd round pick. Essendon either accept it or get nothing.
A couple of things concern me. If Lovett is supposed to have had one of his better seasons in 2009, then why is he wanting to leave Essendon and why are Essendon not trying harder to keep him?
I would assume that if it was merely a matter of money and years on a contract that if Essendon rated Lovett at all that they'd have come to some sort of resolution.
Therefore, I guess the simple answer might be that he doesn't get along with the coach and/or players.
I am not against getting Lovett, however, I partly expect him to rotate in and out of the team with the likes of Hooper, Johnstone and Harding. Hopefully I'm wrong on that point.
Why is it a surprise. It's been obvious he hasn't done the things the coaches have wanted him to do..
Also reaffirms again how so many people are seduced by his 5-10 minutes in the game, yet forget about the other 70 minutes where he looks uninterested, uninvolved and unaccountable.
Players with real X-Factor can break a game open in 5-10 minutes, yet for the other 70+ minutes they do not allow their man to get on top of them...at least break even. If Lovett was capable of this he would win a B & F, not finish 11th.
