Would it pause the redistribution? Or would it force the redistribution to be announced early (with issues for preselection etc)
The redistribution would be paused only for so long as the election to be held. It wouldn't be rushed.
What does happen if an election is called mid-process is:
1. in the case of a state with a seat being abolished (Victoria for example this time around), they combine the two smallest (population wise) neighbouring seats for that one election
2. in the case of a state with a seat being added (WA this time around) they take the largest seat (population wise) and cut it in half for that one election
