My grandfather was invited to train with the dees in the mid 50's however as he grew up in Preston he was zoned to Collingwood so he went to go train with the Pies but was told he would play a year in the reserves until a spot in the seniors freed up for him the following year......he subsequently told them he doesn't play reserves (my pa was very confident in his abilities) and went on to captain/coach local footy were the money was almost as good as VFL.
