Sorry i bolded the wrong part, who should we have gone to earlier to avoid this situation?
Anyone or give Renshaw another go (he is still relatively young) given Warner was struggling and close to retirement and Khawaja was still in great form. Now we have a new opener when Khawaja is close to retirement.

Anyone is not an answer... Renshaw has shrunk any time a spot has been close to available. He only has himself to blame for not getting another chance at the top, not the selectors.

Would be inclined not to make any changes for 2nd test. Though i'd give Labs the role as opener. Needs to step up where his country needs him or find form back elsewhere. McSweeney to #3

Damn-it you are right!. I hope they choose a someone else other than the highest domestic run scorer and best slip catcher. That'll learn us West Aussies.
I'd rather not pick the bloke averaging 15 this season with the bat

Two of that top four are walking wickets, one is brand new, out if position and didn't look like a Test cricketer and the other had a double failure and dropped the critical catch of the match. Historically bad. If we are serious here at least one of not two changes surely.

Banfield 105no. I great response to a run of bad form. My side for the next test would be:

Khawaja
Banfield
Head
Smith
McSweeney
Marsh
Carey
Starc
Cummins
Lyon
Hazelwood

McSweeny not an opener. Give him a go in the middle order where he belongs.
The bowlers done good in the 1st innings in Perth so no changes there - yet

who the hell is Banfield?

If they were going to pick Bancroft, it would have happened after David Warner's last test. Team chemistry means it won't happen.
It isn’t team chemistry, he has already been picked since sandpaper gate. It’s because he is bog average and that is rather generous

I know he played the first 2 Ashes tests in 2019. The interview he did with the guardian in 2021 where he said the bowlers were in on the sandpaper plan is why his cards are marked from a team chemistry point of view no matter how good his form may or may not be.

There is certainly a “faces have to fit” aspect and his face doesn’t fit with a fair chunk of the incumbents

I'm what way is he BOG average , past two seasons leading runscorer.
10 test matches at an average of 26. Still has the same technical flaw that that was exposed at test level and will be again.

He is a good shield level batsman, he is not a test level batsman despite how badly west Australians want him to be.

And he was picked while Langer was coach. The same Langer openly advocating for Bancroft while also in the Australian system. The same Langer who picked Harris, in Langer's own words his "little brother".
