Let this thread be devoted to all things Youth Teams.

The Joeys and 19s just both qualified for their respective AFC tournaments next year.

Joeys are in India in September while 19s tournament is in Bahrain in October.

Olyroos tournament is in January in Qatar. Here's to a much better performance than last time!

That's in the future. Speaking of the present, the U17 World Cup begins next week in Chile. Joeys have the absolute group of death - Germany, Mexico, Argentina

Olyroos fall to Korea Republic
The Olyroos have been beaten 2-0 by Korea Republic in a friendly on Friday night as both sides ramp up preparations for January’s AFC U-23 Championship.

Australia’s U-23 side conceeded an early goal in Hwaseong after a break down the wing was cut back and neatly finished by the hosts.

The Aussies came close to equalising soon after when Andrew Hoole, who was a late addition to the starting line-up after Kwame Yeboah picked up an injury in the warm-up, had a shot cleared off the line.

Instead it was Korea Republic who doubled their advantage just shy of the half-hour when their captain Jeimin Yeon made the most of some messy play in the box with a well guided strike.

The Olyroos carved out several chances after the interval but couldn’t find the goal they needed to get themselves back in the match despite Hoole and Ryan Edwards going close.

Coach Aurelio Vidmar rang the changes with 20 minutes to play, making six substitutions as Australia chased the game.

The result was some expansive football in the closing stages, with both sides wasteful of several chances as play went end-to-end in the energy sapping heat.

Goalkeeper Jack Duncan pulled off three top notch saves to ensure the deficit wasn’t greater, while at the other end Awer Mabil hit the cross-bar from inside the six-yard box with the last play of the game to underline the fact it just wasn’t the Olyroos night.

The sides will meet again in Incheon in three days time, with a strong showing at next year’s AFC tournament in Qatar the priority.

Last weekend’s draw saw the Olyroos grouped with the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Jordan at the 16 team tournament, which will see the top three sides qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

Was an entertaining game with some ripper goals.

Think it's good to have an attacking style but we press way to much and get caught out the back to often, need to hold formation a bit better.

A good learning experience against one of the best youth teams in the world nonetheless.

We have a Dutch technical director don't we? I remember Hiddink remarking when he first came on that what Australia generally lacked in technically gifted players, we made up for in fitness, conditioning, strength and work rate.

While we are probably bridging the gap on the technical side, I'd suspect our physical attributes are still a strength we try and make use of.

0-0 against Mexico. Draw against Argentina could put us through as a 3rd placed team
We'll probably have to beat argentina as only the 4 best 3rd placed sides go through to next round. 2 points probably wont be enough

Good win by the joeys this morning v argentina. Should qualify now and vs either nigeria or south korea in the rd of 16

2016 AFC U-23 Championship which serves as Olympic qualifiers start for the Olyroos this Thursday.
4 groups of 4. Australia is in a group with Jordan, UAE and Vietnam.
Top 2 advance to knockout rounds.
Top 3 make it to Rio.

Will hopefully do better than 4 years ago where didn't score a goal and finished last in group.

Very bad way to start the tournament - given the strength of the team (quite a few prominent young players - Amini, Antonis, Brillante, Taggart among them). Need to win our remaining 2 games now. Remember Olympic qualification also hinges on this tournament, can't afford to slip up again.

How a failed club manager such as Viddie gets a gig is beyond me. Now I know the west Asian sides do well in underage comps but that is inexcusable with the side we have.
