Autopsy Autopsy vs Collingwood aka the Great Pain Robbery

Fortunately, the four points doesn’t mean too much when you’re not contending for finals although a winning culture is obviously important.
While this is true I feel that we desperately need more reward, (or nourishment as owe former coach would say). We lost a fair amount of close games last season, (a couple of which under Ratten), which hurt badly. Today we were in a position for most of the game to at least hang on after being as much as 54 points up, but we didn't, it was yet another loss, just like those other multiple close losses last year. Thankfully we got a little bit of reward last week (which easily could have been another loss), but IMO this group really needs more reward/nourishment.

Love Wardlaw, his game today was enormous, but do you really think Wardlaw, as amazing as he'll be, will actually be as good or better than JHF or Reid? Not sure about that.
On today’s evidence, he is right up there with both of them. It doesn’t mean he will prove to be better in the end. However, we can say that the jury is still very much out. Injuries, intelligence, temperament and other facets, aside from brute force will play a large roll in the final decision. In the end, it could be like comparing Fyfe, Dangerfield and Pendlebury. At various times Fyfe and Dangerfield held sway. Ultimately, I reckon Pendles walks away with the chocolates… or not. Pointless navel gazing really, isn’t it?

How anyone could come away from todays game and think otherwise is baffling.

Daicos didn’t want to go within 10m of him today, with good reason. He was a force of nature that was one of the reasons we almost put 100 points on last years premiers in a half.

His guts and determination today at points were plain scary.
he’s like a pinball with quickness and ability to make 2nd,3rd and 4th efforts is insane.

You say that it will burn. How many of these losses over last 15 years? Pretty much back to the * 69pt game. Different players, different coaches, different decades...same thing just keeps happening.
We are very slow learners!
Its also because that is the nature of sides getting better.

I forget the year, 2012? When our team would of won a record for the most games lost by less than 10 points and given up the most leads. We were a bit older and more rounded of a list then, and after that we started going on a few finals runs.

That older spread list build meant it was a short window though, and we completely and utterly screwed any kind of ability to stay in the window with trade, then completely screwed the comedown of that build, and then screwed the management of the rebuild (though admittedly, covid and expansion clubs ****ed us - I will never forgive Sydney for using academy on blakey. never).

This team is the re-write of all of that - its better, I feel anyone should know that if they have watched north since say the laidly years, we have better players now by a fair bit, just younger and less experienced generally. Particularly if you consider the last 8 years. IMO there is zero question that this team will, in short order, be in finals. We did the final prune last year.

He will only be as good as those who end up surrounding and supporting him.

It’s a Team game

Umpire probably would have called for a review and said it was touched.

That last 5 minutes was some of the most diabolical umpiring, bordering on cheating.

Everyone in the ground sees Sidebottom throw it in front of our goal. Hey they let it go. They then doubled down by ignoring the 50 to Scott.

My favourite decision of the day was when LDU slips, goes to ground and handballs it, but it’s called holding the ball…… WTF?!?!

It's hard to go past the cluster **** when Sheez won the free kick against Jiath deep in the forward pocket in the first term and then the dumb as **** umpires let Collingwood run the ball out to the wing as an advantage call the wrong way. Finally, one of them figures out it should have been our free kick, but no 50, of course. They only award 50-metre penalties when one of ours takes 0.8 seconds to give the ball back.

Super proud of the team today. Youngest list in the comp by a fair distance and we torch the reigning premiers for three quarters. Unfortunately, inexperience, fatigued and some of the most shitful umpiring I've ever seen gets us.

However, under Clarko we led by 6 goals against WC last year and won by 5. We led Freo by 4 goals with 6mins to play and hung on by a point. We had Sydney, Essendon and St.Kilda on the ropes and lost. We led Freo this year by six goal and a quarter later were beaten, led WC last week by 6 goals and lost the lead and now today.

I get it. Be patient. It will turn. But if they are learning to hold winning positions, profound or otherwise, the progress in that area is hard to see.

I guess that it has to be Dawson or Corr. And I reckon we'll favour Corr because of his experience.

Who do you think?
Dawson doesn’t give away brain dead free kicks. I’ll take him.

Pardon me for butting in, but that was the most corrupt game I’ve ever seen. The umpiring was atrocious particularly in the last quarter. No doubt you were robbed. I feel for you all.

Good luck for the rest of the year.
If anyone knows umpiring its a Richmond flog. Always had the rough end of the stick even when they had the filthiest mutt cotchin playing for em. Harshly done by the umpes were those tiger flogs

That 69 point loss to * - I remember the days after and they said our whole club would be emotionally scarred and it would take a generation of players to get over that one. You know what happened the next 69 times we played *?

He's probably going to sit a week out suspended for the one he gave away today...

But yeah, I know what you mean. Still, even today Corr was better than his first ~8 weeks.

Worth noting the side has changed a lot since the start of 2023. Goldstein, Cunnington, Ziebell out. Logue and Simpkin both played both those games, no Fisher, Wardlaw, Archer, Comben played but up forward. This side in its current permutation doesn't have much experience with having a lead, last week they clawed one back after losing it and today almost clawed one back after losing it. Not too discouraging.

Something that really saddens me is you could see how much LDU and Zurhaar wanted it. But will they want to stick around after games like that? Where they give everything an its ripped away at the final minute because we aren't one of the big teams and thus aren't supposed to get late free kicks. Why wouldn't they go to a team that does get that kind of umpiring love?
They should, because we were right in it despite being nowhere near our full potential yet. The first half showed what we're capable of.

What a cracking game to watch as a neutral supporter. North were phenomenal today. Must be hard not getting the win but Pies had to play their premiership winning football to get over the line (plus a bit of help from some questionable decisions late).

You’ll take a lot of learnings today. Games like this are worth so much for development of a young team.

Let's be honest: the umpires came out after halftime with their Collingwood scarves on. How many free-kick-goals in the end? I lost count at 6. Then late in the game, they simply shit the bed. I would love to know who was the controlling umpire when the non-50 to Scott happened. That weak prick deserves to be canned to the bush leagues next week.
