Autopsy Autopsy vs Collingwood aka the Great Pain Robbery

Herald Sun is running an article today about the games cost by umpiring errors so far this season, in the wake of what they say is “the umpiring howler that cost North Melbourne an upset win over Collingwood”. Whatever the AFL says, whatever some Collingwood fans say, everyone who saw that game knows North was robbed.

We don’t need the points. We do need external respect and self-respect, and clearly we got that on Sunday regardless of the end result.

Btw on the home front the conversation with my wife included her saying that “the team that should have won didn’t win”, then last night my Pie-supporting teenage son insisted on showing me the AFL360 clip and telling me loudly that North Melbourne was robbed and it’s bullshit. Warms my heart.
Since Sunday I’ve had texts from six rusted on pies supporting mates all saying we were robbed.

Anybody wishing that the Pies may be on the wrong end of one of these decisions during a close final ?
Think the world has forgotten about the automatic 50 / no advantage / play on call that won them a flag last year ( maybe not Lions supporters )
They squeeled like pigs when a 50 was paid against them after a player tossed the ball to a teammate instead of the umpire for a ball up. They play the umpires every game and get away with it time and time again, even for the most blatant of infringements like the four from Sunday.

If they were eliminated in a final then I'd join toiktock and do an Irish jig from here to skybus stadium.

A few days on and I’m still so riled about the weekend 🤦🏻‍♀️
Mixed emotions for me, I'm still a little upset that we lost and angry and disappointed in the way we lost, but I'm also excited about how we performed for two-thirds of that game, and I'm a little nervous about the tough run over the next 5/6 weeks and whether we can continue to play in a similar vein or whether we take another step backwards.

Did you two swap accounts or something?

I'd expect Cool Kangas to be cooler about it, and DEVO to be devastated....

I had a mad Carlton supporter whose an industry partner call me for 26 minutes on Monday and debrief.
I just sat there agreeing with him. I couldn't believe how angry he was. Just spitting non stop venom.

If the Pies were the family club or just honest battlers who try hard and Fly's a good bloke - that's all changed.
I am sitting here and would rather the Swans or Blues win the whole thing than this lot. That's what Sundays done. Madness.

Sheez also said that Jeremy Howe told him that we were their hardest opponent to play against so far this year.

You know what else is great?
Its Wednesday and my voice is still not back.

I forgot that this is what going to the footy should be like.
Havn't felt like this in 5 years.

Sorry but we really did need those 4 points imo. We're not off to finals but eaxh and every win is still gold dust for forging belief and unity.

The consolation of having the moral victory while watching the "winners" gloat is still sickening.

This week will be instructive as to whether a corner really has been turned. That was a huge adrenaline dump and losing from 9 goals imo on this occasion may have really shaken the group mentally.

However Clarkson Hawthorn sides were known for being able to "bring it" under any circumstances. Can this Clarkson 2.0 butter back up?

Will be fascinating whether we turn up as pre or post bye North Melbourne this week.

^especially against another undermanned opponent

The bye is a bit of a dice roll for them. If Oliver and Viney return in their recent poor fashion then you have to imagine that LDU and the boys will smack them silly. But they could be rejuvenated too.

FWIW, I think that a strong culture and wanting to be better is fueling our team these past two weeks. Melbourne's culture at present, with all of the Petracca scrutiny and Goodwin scepticism, is bleak. Who knows...

My partner - who is Collingwood through and through - said it was like watching a handsome bully get very ugly when being humiliated. I accepted the gist although obviously didn’t buy the handsome part, but I think it’s more like you are saying, the perception of them being exciting with a good bloke coaching.

There'll be an obvious feeling of disappointment in losing.
But I reckon it will fuel the fire going forward. The boys know what they're capable of now, and the hunger should grow from there. They learnt they can beat anyone, just to keep working and improving and the fade outs will become less of an issue with time and fitness.

I don't reckon it will have much of a negative effect. The boys now know they belong and aren't easy beats any more.

One major thing I remember them for was their winning % in games under a goal. Every time it felt like they were 'due' to lose one they always found a way to win them.
