Autopsy Autopsy vs Collingwood aka the Great Pain Robbery

When you're completely numb to losing you can look at it in a rational way.
It sucks that the boys didn't get the reward for effort, and the umpiring was abysmal in the last quarter.

The biggest issue is that we can't run out a whole game yet, and the best thing about it is that it's something we can absolutely change with time. The Pies elite fitness levels, was what won them the game.

The light at the end of the tunnel is there. Another 2 strong pre-seasons and we'll be blasting sides off the park like we did in the first half.
We're going on a ride and it will be fun.
Boys need to keep their heads up and stay the course, it will be worth the pain.

As crook as this is, but it kinda feels great to feel this pain again. Haven’t felt anything watching footy for the last 4 years. I won’t sleep tonight and i haven’t spoke to my family since the siren, but I kinda missed that
It’s great to feel a bit of disappointment vs our weekly embarrassment 👍

I got way too emotional after that siren. I felt more emotional watching North than I did my Crows last night lol (what is going on HAHA). Us Croweaters know all too well about atrocious umpiring -_- Feel for all of you. Collingwood are not the arrogant team they once were (Eddie leaving probably helped that) and they have some impressive players. But I said to my partner, I just can't help but hate them lol I don't know what it is. I think partly it's because they hardly ever have to travel out of Melbourne, they get good fixtures, it just feels heavily biased. This outcome doesn't change that feeling.

You should all be proud of North for coming out firing the way they did - they looked amazing when they were dominating. :) You never know what could happen next week. Collingwood killed Melbourne when they played them, Melbourne don't have Petracca, could put you in good stead for next week. Never give up hope!

A Collingwood dad behind me cracked it at 1/4 time and told his young son, 'come on we're leaving'. Disgraceful example to set and just goes to show how spoilt they've been.
WOW. Did he actually leave?
Shows how little heartache they've had to go through. You stick by your club through thick and thin!

Stephenson coming on, and then unable to do the one thing he is meant to be good at, with a horrible attempt on goal.
That was when I lost hope. And we were six goals up.
It sucks to admit but he has no confidence or killer instinct. We looked so much better having Ford out there for the full game, but the one benefit of making sub was that you get an injection of energy. Ford is such a cheerleader and he can help galvanise us as a sub.

We need to recruit an experienced enough player to be an effective sub because we haven’t pulled this lever well at all this year.

IMO the mistake was to play Stephenson as sub, he should have been played in the first half then bring Ford on as the sub. I really don’t think Stevo is contributing enough and the miss on goal or failure to set up another player who had a better chance was a pivotal point in the game.

Overall though we have to be happy with the development and the endeavour of the team much to look forward to 😎
Ford as the sub is the dumbest shit ever. Ford is a link in the chain for most of our first half goals today. Must start every week.

So we have gone from our game working in parts of quarters, then for one and a bit quarters, to roughly half a game, and now these last two games its been three quarters.

I love that progress, and I don't feel anything but a great deal of pride in the entire club, playing list and coaches for getting this young team playing like they did today and last week for 3 quarters.

However, while before there were clear misunderstandings and skill issues with the game plan, I feel like the things that put us on the floor in these last quarters is almost entirely mental. Which is frustrating. I think most would agree that if you suddenly start wrestling because you have gone behind on the scoreboard and now need to overcome, then that is a mindset issue.

The players need to be made to feel that until we can arm wrestle in the last quarter we are effectively losing, no matter what is on the scoreboard. Every goal oppo kick means we are behind. They need to get out of any kind of mentality that we are protecting a lead, because they clearly are getting into that right now and it drops focus, drops decision making, just makes them play with brain fog because, a defence/protect mentality creates far more mental anxiety and fear than the overcome one. I mean there are studies on this stuff - you want to be overcome mode where you control your destiny, not when you view others as taking your destiny from you.

So yes while we will win some of those games with 3 quarter efforts, and sure tonight and tomorrow will be around a lot of the amazing positives, I hope that during the week they double down on how our standard needs to be for the final quarter. Tell them to not even look at the scoreboard, tell them that even if we win but we haven't kicked goals and arm wrestled then its not good enough. Whatever it is.

I'm sure this will happen, I'm probably spewing nothing that's not 100% part of what modern coaching is all about. But boy we are so tantalisingly close it makes me go a bit nuts watching our last quarter and the switch that we don't turn on until the team knows they are losing on the scoreboard.

Yes, he was mouthing off all the first quarter and couldn't handle it. His son was saying, 'well we have injuries Dad, North are playing better etc etc...' then the dad said 'I've had enough' and they left at 1/4 time. Poor kid.

This. I'll be sleeping in bed tonight thinking what if that Zac Fisher kick was a metre or so to the other side. It's definitely a different feeling, but a better feeling.

I bet he regretted it later! What an idiot.

Bagged you guys over recent times, but think you have finally turned the corner

I never really blame umpiring for a result of a game, and you certainly had your chances, but some really poor decisions in that last quarter didn't help

Good luck for the rest of the year

Sidenote, always rated Comben, hope he stays healthy
