Avowed actually looks pretty good to me, especially compared to what Bioware showed with Veilguard. It seems immersive, with solid roleplaying elements, and that’s exactly what I enjoy. My only worry is that it might end up being small in scope, like The Outer Worlds.

But honestly, I’m not sure if anyone even cares about this game. It’s not exactly hyped, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of gamers don’t even know it’s coming out. What do you guys think? Does Avowed deserve more attention, or is it flying under the radar for a reason?

I was excited about this kind of game set in the PoE universe but so much of what has been shown just looks like something I've already played a hundred times. I've found it strange that there has been very little fanfare or advertisment. I think it will flop but I still think it's something I'll give a go.

IMO it needs to delayed until March or April to have any chance as February is absolutely loaded. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, AC Shadows, Monster Hunter Wilds, Civ 7, LAD Pirate Yakuza, all different audiences but will all be prioritised on wishlists before Avowed. Only LAD and Monster Hunter release after Avowed.

It is Obsidian, it will be great (my favourite studio next to Supergant). Underrate at your peril. Probably have a few bugs at release but I am so keen. RPG with actual choice/repercussions are worth their weight in gold. Every preview has made it look better as the initial trailers were a bit meh.

Already told my mrs I'm planning some tactical sickies around it's release.

idk, they used to be great. outer worlds wasnt that good, im worried this is just that with a fantasy skin

The name Obsidian still carries a lot of weight which I think was well earned, but it's not the same Obsidian it use to be. I didn't enjoy Outer Worlds either. To me the old Obsidian ended when Chris Avallone left.

I really enjoyed Outer Worlds and finished it a couple times (mostly because in my first run I realised I skipped massive bits of the game by mistake). Maybe I'm in the minority.

Pentiment was really good for something different too.

might be controversial but while Avellone wrote some great characters/stories at times he also wrote plenty of over-the-top shite too. some of his characters are the most pretentious dribble in Obsidian's history

they're probably my favourite dev ever and are just as good as they've always been IMO. Tyranny, Pillars 2, Pentiment and Outer Worlds are some of the most fun I've had in the past decade. even Grounded is probably the best overall survival crafting game I've played, put 170hrs into that last year. before that Pillars 1 and Stick of Truth are epic.

everything I've seen from Avowed is looking really fun. focused story/quest-heavy RPG with decent bit of choice/consequence, multi-path quests, exploration dialed up from Outer Worlds, combat looks pretty good for a first person fantasy RPG (nearly all of them have garbage combat). art design looks great, feels like Pillars to me. only negative I've seen so far as them barely hoping it scrapes by 30fps on Xbox. I mean I'll be playing this on my new PC next year but it's a joke games are still barely cracking 30fps and devs are saying "we think that's enough for a single player RPG" - nah it isn't, 30fps is ****ing trash to play IMO there's no excuse

I use Avellone as a moment in time because IMO Alpha Protocol and New Vegas are the last genuinely awesome games Obsidian made, and while PoE 1 was really good it was also much better than two and Avellone was only there for the first. I followed Obsidian over from their Interplay and Black Isle days. I was obsessed with the Forgotten Realms universe so Black Isle were my favourite developer and Avellone was arguably the most important person right through those years. Going into Outer Worlds I thought Obsidian were safe as long as Urquhart was still around but I was bitterly disappointed and realised it was mostly Avellone alone who wielded the magic.

IMO Pillars 2 is way better in every way than the first, which was already an 8.5/10 game. and Avellone's companions were the worst ones in 1. I think we just have differing opinions haha. Obsidian basically hitting the mark nearly every game in their existence from start to finish (alright maybe not the Pathfinder card game or Dungeon Siege)

I would definitely rather Pillars 3 than Avowed by a mile but I'm still hoping for this to be good. for me if it's Outer Worlds but in the POE world and improves on Outer Worlds obvious weak points it's gonna be amazing

Played a few hours and the 80 on Metacritic is about right so far. Nothing special but still enjoying it, combat is a lot of fun with the different combinations you can have and switching load outs on the fly.

Playing on Series X and had no technical issues, I think they're mostly appearing on PC from what I've seen. Game looks pretty good.

looks really fun to me. good mix of action combat, exploration and questing. graphics/world looks great but facial animations look shit at times. granted I haven't actually played it, I'm not gonna play it for a fair while as once my GPU arrives I have a backlog of games like BG3/Cyberpunk/KCD1 to get through

only big weak point is I think the soundtrack sucks. really bad compared to the PoE1+2 OST's

Has anyone seen the comparison videos with Oblivion and Skyrim regarding attention to detail?

I don't think the devs have ever tried to compare themselves to those games and not every game has to be like Skyrim to be fair... but still, it's not great seeing no reactions from NPCS or guards when you shoot an arrow through their face or when enemies run through towns as guards simply stand there, static.

Yes and Oblivion wasn't even that great of game. Certainly not as good as Morrowind.

I might give it a try but I guess we expected better from Obsidian after F:NV with a open world RPG and Outer Worlds.

A lot of these studios, are no longer the same progressive studios from a decade ago.

This is one of my favourite games in a while. Leans into the action/combat genre of RPG, but it’s very very good.
